  Blow Pony's 4th anniversary this weekend Friday
Sweet Basil‘s Grand re-opening – Would you like some drag with your Pad Thai? I’m excited for them, because I want this to be more than a restaurant. Their food is pretty delicious, but can be hit or miss. Everything tastes fresh, but inconsistent (just like top 40’s pop).
Being told, that this is a gay establishment, I was expecting to feel at home right when I walked through the doors. You know, a queen in full glory, handing you menus and a shot. I don’t want Hamburger Mary’s to have the market on “out and proud”. I think Beaverton moms should be exposed to the haircuts they should have had. I also think that your food should taste as good as the fun you’re having. Really, I wanted more gay. I like when VERY straight people feel a little uncomfortable. It isn’t exclusion… it’s gossipy community.

  Hot gay leprechauns... Thursday
Happy St Patty’s Day y’all. I know many of you will protest that the “snakes” Patrick was driving out were peace-loving pagans, and yet others of you may be flashing the Protestant orange. Either way I’m not a huge St Pat celebrator but I’m down to drink a green beer and and get pinched with the best of ’em. It is not political for me (easy to say from my comfortable west coast seat eh?). So that’s the spirit of this Irish tinged weekend picks. But feel free to discuss more important matters below.
No cover St Paddy’s at Flipside – Salem’s hottest q party is offering to let you get down sans door cash. More to spend on Irish whiskey. But sure if I’d trust the dollar wells though…who am I kidding, of course I would.

Trans Life open house – Every Thursday is a chance for trans folks to get together and find out about the programs, support groups and social outings that the Q Center has to offer. This night, allies, friends and partners can also get in on the cross gender fun. Great day for tranny chasers.

Summing at the Parts – new works by Gia Goodrich – Installation art provocateur Gia Goodrich is back. This time she explorers the self-creation of gender as it relates to queer identity using a very (pseudo?) intellectual scale she designed herself called the Gender Perceptivity Scale. I’m sure there will also just be plenty of hotness to perceive.

 Saturday's 'Blow Pony' features Serendipity Jones Thursday
Forgive Me Father at Pivot – I have no trouble reconciling my hedontistic, panganisitc spiritual desires with my homosexual ones, but many of those who hold more subdued beliefs do. This night is for them. There’s quite a movement incorporating faith with gay liberation and this is just the function to explore that.
The Cafeteria – Vendetta is a small venue but this school themed night has it bursting at the seems. And don’t think you’ll be safe by showing up at 9. The door gods take station at the early work time of, like, 8 or something. Thank god it’s worth it.

Rabbit Rabbit with Lisa Schonberg & Heather Treadway – Remember when you used to get excited about new bands? Well be prepared to feel that way again with 2 new projects taking the intimate stage at Mississippi Pizza (across the street from Mississippi Studios). Two of the ladies from Explode into Colors are exploding into another musical venture so new it doesn’t even have a name. Be prepared to swoon over Lisa’s skills on the drum set. Yeow!

Indie–Cent – Local Lounge is trying to make main drag MLK Blvd the place to be for queers and I think it might be working. I haven’t seen the busy strip so fun as lively as I have this year. As part of this effort the Local is adding regular dance nights that are small enough to feel neighborhoody and big enough to be a party. One of the first was JunKtion but they’re expanding a a twice a month (1st & 3rd Fridays) soiree which might have a slightly more masculine flavor with organizers Nathaniel Knows and Danny Merkury. But don’t worry, boys and girls alike rule this school!

Labworks with video by D4N30V3R – PDX can be a really packed for the queerion and we can often feel sucked into the scene vortex. So bust out this Thursday with some beats that you can dance to sans pop. Queer DJ Sappho is a wicked spinstress worth the trip to straightland.

Bearracuda Scruff Night – I’m sure there are plenty of well groomed chubby cubbies out there, but this night is for roughnecks. So let that 5 o’clock shadow turn into a Portland hipster beard and let your Sunday morning outfit out to play. And even when the parties over you can find your scruffy puppies through your smartphone. Oh what a brave new world.

CAP Archives Grand Opening and Exhibit – AIDS has been a part of our culture for 30 years now but CAP has been with us for almost as long. Celebrating its 25th anniversary CAP presents an exhibit of activist art and ephemera that will tug on your heartstrings at the same time as making you laugh at past marketing campaigns and images. It is a night of community remembering that will survive the ages long after our hangovers have left us forgetful.

Street Corner A staged Reading – Already another theatrical piece f the weekend, this time a bit earlier in the process. One of several bits in a series of short plays, It Takes All Shorts, Street Corner stars Kevin Cook aka Poison Waters.
Glass Candy, Chromatics and Rude Dudes – Something of a straight hipster bastion, a Glass Candy/Chromatics show still produces great music and a great time. Rude Dudes have incredible dynamic duo superpowers on the decks, smashing genres together in a way that will make you want to dance, but be too enthralled to remember the moves.
