As local produce begins to fill our farmer’s markets and grocery stores once again, I am announcing a brand new project! Both the Bacon Gospel and Heritage Breed Supper Club will continue to preach the local meats truth later this year, but The Northwest Farm & Table Project drives the message home in a whole new way!
Some of you may recall those raging community dinners I was doing last summer with Tressa Yellig of Salt, Fire & Time. One plate dinners overflowing with local meats and produce had people lining up all the way to the sidewalk! Others have attended my more formal dinners and bacon tastings or that big bash last fall for Primal Cuts. My style is about making this amazing, local food accessible to more people. So, as the farm season gets going, I have been planning this year’s list of events and could think of no better way to take the
conversation to another level than to bring the message home! To your home, that is.
The Northwest Farm & Table Project runs from April 22nd (Earth Day) to May 20th!

  Project Mayor-Man winner "SamDroid" Mayor Sam Adams is a good sport. Portland is irreverent and expects its mayor to match our weirdness step for step. So when Stumptown Comics hosted a contest to dress up the Mayor as a superhero he was all about it. He’s just thankful to be fully clothed, even if it does mean several layers of spanks. Not sure that’s something I need to know about our city-leader-in-chief but there you have it.

  Rainbow Noise artists Cee, Loco Niinja, Jay Squared , Stud Phamous Gays in hip hop has always been a complicated subject. It’s no longer completely unknown, Cazwell has stormed the scene, Lady Sovereign is big in the UK, Katastrophe and Athens Boys Choir are constantly touring favs, and there’s dozens of smaller queer hip hop acts both local and national.But much of mainstream urban music can still be homophobic and there’s still a hunger for more positive representations of LGBT MCs and DJs. And a big project just emerged from right across the river called Rainbow Noise Entertainment.
RainbowNoise is an entertainment company that specializes in marketing lesbian and gay talent to mainstream audiences without compromising the artists’ individual style or gender presentation…From conscious rap to old school and party hip hop styles, RainbowNoise artists cover it all. The keen focus on production quality and lyrical strength sets them ahead of many independent labels in their class.
This is a worthy project that is interesting enough for it’s goal but there’s even more compelling aspects.

  Dangerous Curves Portland is good at a few things: brewing beer and coffee, paving the way for bicyclists, and performative sex. By that I mean that we have some of the highest per capita strip clubs in the nation, as many would put it. But we’re way better than that even. Because we have nuanced and artsy, but no less sexy, burlesque performances that go way beyond any mere striptease. And this week we’ve got 2 big ‘uns.
Dangerous Curves this Wednesday at Red Cap (12th and Stark) is bringing the nation’s premier touring burlesque troupe to our fair city featuring the likes of Anita Cookie, Clams Casino, Darlinda Just Darlinda, GiGi La Femme & Minnie Tonka, who have been called everything from “mastermidn fo bizarre extravaganza” to “charmingly inebriated, hilarious and sizzling hot.” Their Brooklyn flavor will be a lovely balance to our Northwest palettes, represented by Baby Le’Strange, Hai Fleisch and ChiChi and Chonga.
