The music is a mixed bag but you won’t care. Bootie mashup – Apparently pirates are back. So mashup yer eyepatches and go go dancing. And butt pirate photobooth? All about it. Gay Volleyball Championships – I really really hope they bring in sand to the convention center. These are what I’m considering… Tonight The Gong Show – Bad Scene Productions brings you a 70s game show redux for the 2nd time to benefit outside in. Judged by The Mercury’s Wm. Steven Humphrey & Marjorie Skinner and William Batty & Sadie LaGuerre of Wanderlust Circus there’s bound to be nothing appropriate of the former Sissyboy members performing as KD Rang and Mami Tsunami hosted show. But I’m especially excited to see openers Hammercise with members of the Sprockettes bringing you a whole new way to exercise for summer getting in shape. The weekend kicks off tomorrow not only with the Tranny Roadshow but with Crave for the ladies Menz Room and Red Cap’s official Red Dress Pre-Party for the dudes, and Cuda Cabaret for the artfags. The qPDX sponsored Crave brings the ladybeat back to Crush (1400 SE Morrison) with a Purple Rain theme that will have your doves crying and your feet dancing. DJs Alicious and Boy return to the decks with some 1999 love for your dripping purple heart. Slated to be at the intimate and aptly named Rumpspanker’s what could be better than a horde of horny queers reveling in their sexy voyeurism together? But alas, the night was moved south to Crush (1400 SE Morrison) and refashioned with a hefty $10 entry fee. And while it would be pretty fantastic to join in this Wednesday to watch The Buck Stops Here with the infamous Buck Angel himself in attendance, I really don’t think I can pony up that many bills for a movie I could rent with my sweetie in the seclusion of my own clean bedroom. That said, there will be raffle items from It’s My Pleasure and SheBop, not mention items from the Angel himself. Plus a steamy Q&A after the screening. Continue reading »  Kelly Moe will perform live at Fruitcake's NYE party The craziness of New Year’s Eve parties, be they gay or less gay, is well established and usually find me in the safe confines of a cozy NE Portland bungalow. You would think that with this year’s economy that would be especially true. But alas, this year I will be swinging down to the inner SE industrial district to partake of some holiday Fruitcake with DJs Nolita, Gottesfinger, Freddie Fagula, Chelsea Starr (Hotpants/SF) and Yer Mom (Blo Pony). My favorite NE party that recently succumbed to the Rumpapankers implosion, will see its last foray and one of organizer Nolita’s last sets at Branx (320 SE 2nd Ave). Mix in live performances by The Lovers, Portland’s most ethereal best-new-thing, Kelly Moe, the sensual chanteuse I used to call my video store boyfriend, and Judy!, art-rock extraordinaire, and you have a holiday happening I’ll venture out for. My recommendations are SPelUNK at Red Cap (1035 SW Stark) and Fruitcake at Rumpspankers (700 NE Dekum). In honor of being scared of (and excited by) the dark, Red Cap intends to plunge its patrons into total, cave-like darkness with only your instincts and some LED lights to guide you.
