What’s in Beth Ditto’s bag

Former local Beth Ditto may no longer belong to us, as her UK popularity has prompted a move to London, but this blog has obsessed over her for so long now it’s doubtful that will abate much. That’s why I will continue to update you with news such as what’s in Ditto’s purse. The last page of Marie Claire‘s May issue features the Gossip frontwoman talking about what’s inside […]

And it’s even free for your younguns under 24. Some hip hoppers to our north may be getting a lot of noise lately but Rocco and Katz have been at it for awhile now, paving the road for other homo hop. They’re talented, they’re irreverent, they’re hot, and apparently old school now…

Mayor ‘SamDroid’ dresses up for Stumptown comics

Project Mayor-Man winner "SamDroid"

Mayor Sam Adams is a good sport. Portland is irreverent and expects its mayor to match our weirdness step for step. So when Stumptown Comics hosted a contest to dress up the Mayor as a superhero he was all about it. He’s just thankful to be fully clothed, even if it does mean several layers of spanks. Not sure that’s something I need to know about our city-leader-in-chief but there you have it.

Outing schools that block gay websites

In the early days of internet at my high school Net Nanny programs handily blocked many of my tame searches for the likes of “gay pharoah” or “breast cancer” (yes, breast was blocked in the 90s). Not someone who regularly works with teenagers I don’t really know how restrictive today’s internet is in secondary schools. But one thing is becoming fairly clear, not all access is created equal.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has launched a project that asks public high school students to inform them if their school blocks access to pro-gay websites and doesn’t anti-gay websites.

Should Apple get rid of “ex-gay” iPhone app?

Everyone knows that Apple is pretty picky when it comes to allowing apps in their tightly controlled marketplace. But though you won’t be able to see any racy gay sightseeing recommendations you can be cured of “the gay.” This has some folks hopping mad, including Truth Wins Out founder Wayne Besen, who recently wrote a piece for the Huffington Post condemning the app.

Exodus International, the notorious “ex-gay” organization, recently released an iPhone app that, according to its website, is “designed to be a useful resource for men, women, parents, students, and ministry leaders.” The Exodus website further boasts that its app received a 4+ rating from Apple, meaning that it contains “no objectionable content.”

Disko Warp kicks off Kumoricon at Ground Kontrol

How did I not know about the queer contingent of Kumoricon, Oregon’s largest anime convention?

Anime may not be my most watched television or read comics but I am geeky like that, so thank you Ryan Prado at Just Out for clue-ing me in to tonight’s opening celebration at Ground Kontrol (511 NW Couch) for the gays put on by Disko Warp Records.

That party also doubles as a […]

Good news: You represent (good gay blog-reading habits)

Hmm, looks familiar
Hmm, looks familiar

Hmm, looks familiar

According to a study released today and published across the internet on blogs and sites such as this one, you’re in good shape. Why? You positively represent the findings of said study, which let a homo know that we are comparatively more likely to read blogs on a regular basis, which is awesome. Shameless plug: It’s also a perfect reason to consider advertising with us. You can find out more about that here).
No news on bisexual, trans identified, or low income folks as per usual (or combinations thereof), and obvs they don’t tell us how they define “gay and lesbian”, but if you can overlook that then it is actually kinda interesting.

Oregon ranks second in the nation in penis size

Oregon men have something to be proud of, according to Condomania, who just released a study ranking the state of Oregon second only to New Hampshire in penis size. They also ranked the top 20 cities in the USA and Portland takes a respectable 6th place, with the largest members found in Nola, DC, NYC, San Diego and Phoenix.

In business for 20 years, Condomania, gathered their data from the launch of TheyFit Condoms, the world’s first line of tailored-fit prophylactics, in 76 sizes. Since their debut in 2004 they have sold over 27,000 men in 70 countries, and now have just begun to analyze this cache of data.

she-bop4

Co-owners Jeneen Doumitt and Evy Cowan

Even in a bad economy people usually continue to drink and to have sex. Just as bars as full as they ever were, so too can a burgeoning sex toy shop thrive in the downturn.

At least that is the hope of Evy Cowan and Jeneen Doumitt, two long time friends, who just opened, She Bop, an adult boutique specializing in non-toxic body safe toys, books, DVDs and gifts for women. The bright and airy store, open 7 days a week from 11 to 7, set just off Mississippi Ave (909 N Beech) is a friendly and close in alternative to the fantastic, but out of the way It’s My Pleasure.
