All I want for Christmas is you
I’m super excited to announce that this year qPDX teamed up with Ally Picard and a host of local queer run businesses to present you with our First Annual Holigay Gift Guide. With gift ideas for the, Art Fag, Bibliophile, Fashionista, Foodie, Fun Lover, Music Nerd and the Well Groomed Health Nut you can’t go wrong.
I’m particularly excited about […]
Darcelle loves the holiday season
In honor of your Thanksgiving day feast I want to present you with 80-year-old local drag legend Darcelle on KPTV FOX 12’s Thanksgiving Cook-a-thon. They get pretty silly, bordering on raunchy, for mainstream TV. Without Darcelle, she says, they would have had a “dirty bird,” which is likely true, as she was the only one brave enough to stuff her hands in […]
Milk-n-Hunny Saturday at Red Cap
Whether you are with your biological family or a chosen one, I hope all have a day full of food to be thankful for. I know I’m certainly thankful to live in a city with so much to do, even on a holiday weekend. So use those extra days off!
Wednesday
Lez Stand Up with Kupp! – One of the funniest ladies I know is Kirsten Kuppenbender, with just enough energy to be entertaining without seeming like many ADD-addled comedians. And when do you need a little humor more than the eve before a day of family gathering with wine-induced arguments and narcoleptic tryptophan napping. With 7 or 8 performers including Nicole Georges and Whitney Streed along with the smooth stylings of DJ Party Martyr this is a night of jokes and stories that will be way better than Grandpa’s.

Lt Dan Choi
In an ironic bit of news today MTV reports that A Pentagon memo leaked today, appropriately Veterans Day supports the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.
Washington Post, quoting two people familiar with a draft of the report, said that it will say that the military’s lifting of the ban would result in “minimal and isolated incidents of risk to the current war efforts.”
According to the Post, more than 70 percent of respondents to a survey sent to active-duty and reserve troops this summer said the effects of a repeal would be “positive, mixed or nonexistent.” Those results reportedly led the survey’s authors to conclude that objections to gay troops would drop once they were able to live and serve openly with their peers.
In some other gay and vet’s day news, a service was held for gay vets:

The Tampon Troupe with Hamburger Mary
Halloween weekend is already off to a ghoulish and garish start. Last night qPDX stopped by Hamburger Mary’s Haunted Opening before heading over to the Local Lounge for Junktion’s Zombie Formal and got photos from both.
Marys hosts ChiChi and Chonga riled the packed crowd with their musical drag prowess but the Tampon Troupe truly stole the show.
The Zombie Formal […]
Fannie Mae Darling in 'Trannysnatchers'
This is the weekend that all the gay ghouls come out of the woodwork for All Hallow’s Eve mayhem. So whether your pleasure is tricks or treats there’s bound to be a party, or 2, for you.
Thursday
Cafeteria, HomoDeluxe and Drop Shop – Thursday isn’t particularly spooky, although I have no doubts there will be some excellent costumes at “lunch trays and ghoulish gays” themed Cafeteria. Dead lunch ladies? Zombie assistant principals? Vampire cheerleaders?
Friday
Crave‘s Halloween Bash – Sexy undead go go dancers and the chance to show your own go go off with costume prizes in several categories like originality, scariest, sexiest, nerdiest and cutest couple. The featured drink of the night is ‘Monster Punch,’ sweet/sour and strong, and it’s only 2 bucks before 10. Plus VIP passes and incentives for friends makes this the it party for girls.

Many a youthful afternoon was spent smoking cigarettes (yes kiddies you could even smoke in restaurants in those prehistoric days) and eating french fries at the quintessentially queer restaurant Hamburger Mary’s. It was gone for many years but now the gay eating institution is back. And to celebrate it’s grand opening the ladies are hosting a haunted opening. That’s right, this Friday at the new Hamburger Mary’s (19 NW 5th Ave), dress up or else.
But the best part is this video commercial advertising the opening featuring new queens on the scene ChiChi and Chonga.
They have been embroiled in a drag video battle with local drag phenomenon and Mary’s co-star Fannie Mae Darling which is also quite entertaining. It looks like this is becoming an impromptu TV show that’s worth turning in to.

sPLURt is hot and gross at the same time...but who didn't love the drugs of the 90s?
Thursday
Work! – Brand spankin’ new night at Plan B (1305 SE 8th Ave), last home of infamous Booty by DJ Gutter Glamour. It evokes that feel good gay 90s RuPaul anthem…so you better work! Oh and leave the drama for yer mama, cuz this ain’t no place for shade just really good music in a fun space. Big back patio and the last day before the rain settles back in for the duration of winter.
Splurt! – The former hump day fest is just making it’s way to every third Thursday, but its not too far from Plan B, so you can probably make it to both this and Work! The “hardest workin’ DJs” in town say not to bring either your bad attitude or that sweater (you know the one) but with a theme like, 90s rave bukakke, there might be just a little dramz at this one. Nevertheless Thursdays are for exclamation points and peace, love unity and respect.

Cazwell isn’t even a little bit local. In fact, this summer was probably the first time he’s been to Portland. But I love his simple hip pop and his unabashed lewdness, and this boystown reaction to Katy Pery’s summer anthem is getting almost as much attention as a Lady Gaga video.
And are there hot, sweaty men flashing brightly colored underwear, licking matching popsicles and ice cream cones? Check. So here ya go folks.

Portland Weather...it's getting better!
Do I dare post this? Hard to believe, but the weather forecast for tomorrow is up to a staggering 94 degrees! Considering I was having drinks with a friend at the Bye and Bye last week and could see my breath, this is unbelievable.
Time for a quick-and-dirty summer guide to queer Portland.
- Ah, beach life. A great place to go and be amongst your fellow queers is to hit up gay (clothing optional) beaches on Rooster Rock or Sauvie Island. Check out our handy-dandy little guide to Sauvie Island. Sauvie’s is totes trans/girl/queer/clothed/all-sizes positive, so you have no reason to stay at home! You can also go berry picking or check out the wildlife on the island. Rooster Rock is also another option, but is generally cruisier and more gay-guy orientated than Sauvie Island. Plus we went there yesterday and its all kinds of flooded, so bring yer raft or prepare to hike. A trip to the Oregon coast is also the perfect way to spend a summer day.
