Just in: Keller Henry, a Portland resident and TriMet user, took a quick snapshot of a sticker found on TriMet. My thoughts are all in a jumble about this, but I will try and make sense of it the best I can. I am a white, queer European who has been an anti-facist and anti-racist activist since I was a teen. It has come to QPDX.com’s attention that a mysterious character known only as SuperGay has been spotted flying around town (and in the bean aisle at Fred Meyer) sporting a rainbow cape and a spandextastic outfit, and campaigning for the rights of queer people everywhere. I caught up with SuperGay on a local rooftop, where zhe was polishing their silver mirrored goggles with their rainbow cape, but before I could ask SuperGay how we can contact them, they just said “Same gay time, same gay channel” (I assume that means logo, but i don’t have cable) and flew off into the sunset with a barbie doll, a GI Joe, and a My Little Pony Unicorn clutched tightly to their chest. It’s time to take a brief look at an event we had in town this past Sunday, the Dirty Queer Swap and Shop. While we all know and love Dirty Queer – The X Rated Open Mic, the swap and shop is a new concept DQ host and founder Sossity Chiricuzio came up with one (rainy, probably) afternoon: An opportunity to support In Other Words by inviting sex toy vendors and the public alike to shop for sex toys, gear and accessories as well as to swap used items no longer needed. I had no idea what to expect (except dancing) but this being a PantsOff production, I knew it had to be good.  Untrained, I Dance Company And I was not disappointed. Kick / Ball / Change is not a queer event per se, but it’s anti-authoritarian, DIY, gender-blurring, pop culture-referring, ruckus attitude has all the appeal of Portland’s best queer events – it’s clear that organizers Jodi Bon Jodi and Max Voltage’s many years of organizing and performing queer events are indelible from both their passion and their art. We have the world’s shittiest camera because we’re so fly-by-night (have one you wanna donate?) so I apologize for some quality issues. Also, we had trbl getting good shots […] And it’s time for a little half time recap. (well, technically a 2/3rds time recap, but who cares, right?) It’s been a busy few days indeed!  Kick / Ball / Change @ The Someday Lounge Thursday saw me hit RedCap for a little update on RuPaul’s drag race, which I have been checking in with since my first review, which you can find here. The Portland edition doesn’t have eliminations, so all the girls were still in the race-and had the task of choreographing a dance number to RuPaul’s own “Supermodel” (yes that super gay dance number from the early 90’s). Overall, both teams did well, but Team Alexis sadly took a wrong turn on the costume front, picking lavender onesies that were not flattering at all. Also, their choreo was messy. I had expected more from Alexis. Team Kelly stole the Lipsynch For Your Life trophy with excellent dresses, makeup, and teamwork. Their choreo was sometimes a little flat, but overall well done. Sable Scities is most definitely the strongest dancer in the group, and stands a strong chance of walking away with the prize of being the Northwest’ Fiercest Drag Queen if she can keep up the pace. A great show, with the usual witty banter between Poison Waters and Byron Beck. Sadly, Isiah from Burlesquire should stick to what he does best (and he really does do it very well) – Dancing.
