So many (tiny) dogs. FryBrickLineFight v.s So-So-Burger line. What will you wear? Why do dykes on bikes always wear black? When is the Dyke March (Hint: either at 5pm or 6pm, depending on who you ask.) Official Weather. UnderU for Men sale. Why it’s not OK to be sexist, racist, or aggressive during Pride. Lovetribe snuggle tent skepticism. Splendora Gabor’s candyfloss hair.  It’s not over until the drag queen sings. And: If you find a bar that does dollar mimosas (like the fabulous Invasion did a few years ago!) you tell us by tweeting something @qpdx.

Some random musings on the nature of Portland Pride. All you need to know will be revealed, but don’t quote me. I said don’t.

What to expect for Portland Pride 2011, including real-time Twitter updates

Hot damn, Pride Season always comes up so damn fast, even before the sunshine in this town. Here at qPDX we’re seldom “prepared” but we were born “ready” and we’ve got a whole lot of good stuff to keep you on your toes all weekend long.

Firstly, everything Pride related can be found at Pride Central 2011, from schedules to photos to reviews. And if you think we’re […]

Portland Black Pride is back! After a hiatus of sorts Portland Black Pride is back – and collaborating with the PFLAG Portland Black Chapter.

“We are planning a series of events to take place during the dates of 6/15-6/19. We have combined a variety of youth, adult, and events for all ages during the black pride celebration week to ensure we are including and recognizing all of our community” writes Khalil Edwards, one of the organizers of the events.

BearTown 16 to maul Portland June 9th-12th

BearTown 16 is here! June 9th to 12th Portland will be packed with bears and beary events. While not a bear myself (but as a follically powerful individual I do sympathize with feeling empowered about hairyness) I was excited to hear that Beartown this year will feature massage therapists! Well damn. If that isn’t the best idea I’ve heard in a while, as big time gay social events can be a bit tension inducing.

Apparently, however, you gotta be smart and reserve a massage slot in order to make the best of this great offer – at $1 a minute with a 15 minute minimum, it sounds like a fairly affordable treat (and probably more satisfying than other pay-by-the-minute services i can think of). BearTown this year has a packed schedule full of events such as the Meet and Greet on Thursday, June 9th, from 7-11 pm at the Eagle Portland, and a full day of events from 10-2:00 am at various locations around town. Friday’s highlights include an UnderBear dance party, a cigar social, and Cheers, Cheese and Chocolates event at the Local Lounge.

Love qPDX? Join us for Pride 2011 and “MAKE IT HAPPEN”!

Help qPDX.com cover gay pride
Help qPDX.com cover gay pride

qPDX.com needs you to "make it happen".

What is that big golden disc in the sky? OMG the SUN? This can only mean-we’re half way through the year already, almost. Pride time!

This year, Pride NW’s theme is “MAKE IT HAPPEN”.  You already know we do that every day of the week, but the bigger Pride gets (and my, does it grow), the more we need your help! Every year, we at qPDX.com do everything we can to bring you the freshest, savviest, and most organic queer news and events possible. That means doing everything at once, for us. And while that sounds kind of fun, more hands are better than less when it comes to…tug of war, orgies, moving house, and qPDX Pride coverage.

We need your help!

Mike was shooting with such fancy equipment that it took awhile for him to really get all the galleries up, but they finally are! That also means that if you spot yourself in a shot we can most likely make a really nice print for you. If you’re interested just email me at alley@qpdx.com.

Perry's Plethoric Pride Pantheon Redux - Portland Pride Weekend in Review

Gay Cat

Wow – what a weekend. I don’t know about you, but I’m still recovering, and finding glitter in unexpected places. This year’s Pride was an amazing experience for me. Five nights, ten parties, two marches, and zero gay bashings or homophobic incidents (as far as we know). A vibrant, powerful and peaceful pride despite a lot of changes this year – to the Pride route, to step-off times…and weather that wasn’t quite what we’ve been hoping for. This also marked a change for us here @ QPDX.com as we slowly grow from a little website that could into the bigger, badder, and more powerful queer community media hub that we want to become.

We do what we do for you, our community, and we want to thank everyone who has supported us over the past year and a half in so many ways: Holding banners, running errands, making connections, t-shirts, costumes, stealing copies, blogging/photographing…all of it. Thank you for inspiring us to do more and do better, every day. Thank you for giving us hella gay stuff to write about.

Alright, enuff wishywashing. Let’s get down to the dirt!

Pride Sunday's the day...parade and all

Cazwell and Amanda Lepore will be at the Stark Street Block Party

So yeah, the 11:30 step off time for the Portland Pride Parade is pretty much a guesstimate, and we’ve all just been partying for 4 days, so Gay Standard Time is general operating procedure. But it’s the 40th anniversary of the first Gay Pride (Lordy lordy look who’s 40…) so you better be there with your fairy-ass bells on, even if there is a little sprinkling. If there is any rain I’m sure it’s just “God” telling us to wake up and parade already.

And yes, qPDX will be there, tweeting (twatting), parading, handing out stickers, buttons and flyers, in our best supergay outfits including newly fashioned qPDX “beater” tank tops courtesy Mike Burt. There’s a couple extra so if you march with us and/or are real lucky, you might get one too.

And of course once we reach the Waterfront I usually tool around for awhile and giggle at baby dykes purchasing their first set of Freedom Rings, fully expecting to head home. But oh no, it ain’t over yet folks
