  Ivan Coyote, Anna Camilleri and Lyndell Montgomery perform Swell Bringing together a grand spectrum of masculinities Butch Voices Regional Conference comes to P-Town this weekend as part of its four state tour. The gathering butchies celebrate a vast array of identities.
We are woman-identified Butches. We are trans-masculine Studs. We are faggot-identified Aggressives. We are noun Butches, adjective Studs and pronoun-shunning Aggressives. We are she, he, hy, ze, zie and hir. We are you, and we are me. The point is, we don’t decide who is Butch, Stud or Aggressive. You get to decide for yourself.
This convention is part party, learning experience, performance and part art. It opens tonight with a A Taste of Butch Flavor art exhibition at the Q Center (4115 N Mississippi) with live music featuring a reunion of Portland’s all-womyn percussion troupe, The Rhythm Givers, with special guests. The exhibit will be up throughout the month.

sPLURt! episode 2 – I’m starting this weekend off tonight because how could I not highlight a bukakke-themed 90?s rave revival party? Really, I kinda think the 90s are back with a vengeance and I did always have a hard time letting go of the Peace, Love, Unity, Respect mantra. Plus with a photo like theirs and a promise to go home covered in something it’s likely we’ll all be pre-squirtin’ before the real weekend even begins.

  D'Lo Every bit as hot and talented as fellow Tamil MIA, political theatre artist/writer and music producer D’Lo unleashes his spoken word and hip hop act on the students on Reed tonight at 7pm in the campus chapel and tomorrow in Winch Hall at 1pm for a workshop.
With an interesting combination of pure Los Angeles street knowledge and a BA from UCLA in Ethnomusicology and a graduate of New York’s School of Audio Engineering, D’Lo brings important political and ideological discussions to a genre that needs an infusion of the genuine.  Ingrid Elizabeth of Coyote Grace will be performing solo this weekend in Seattle. The first time I ever heard Coyote Grace, I asked them if they would play at my wedding. A friend took a group of us to see the show at a downtown pub when I was living in Flagstaff, AZ. It was one of those experiences that takes you by surprise: I wasn’t expecting to discover an extraordinary “acoustic downhome due” on such a mediocre downhome Sunday afternoon. I wasn’t expecting to get tipsy either, but what else can you do on a warm weekend day when surprised with the kind of music that shifts your entire perspective?
Before Coyote Grace kicks off their 2010 Southwest tour, Ingrid Elizabeth—the soulful, sultry bassist of the duo—will be featured in an event a little closer to home, in Portland’s neighboring town, Seattle. XOXO: Love Notes From the Margins (or, A Queerly Crumbled Valentine’s Evening) is the third show produced by TumbleMe Productions. After its initial two sold out shows, “TumbleMe is proud to bring the perfect date night or anti-date night for Valentine’s lovers and haters alike, in one of Seattle’s most intimate venues.”

 Trans Revolution dance party returns to Crush tomorrow Just because you are trying to stick to your New Year’s resolution of not drinking, or at least drinking less, doesn’t mean your social calendar should suffer. We may be experiencing the post-holiday doldrums of grey and rainy January but there is still plenty of queer excitement left in the humid air.
This weekend sees at least 3 big events, the 3rd anniversary of the popular smut fest Dirty Queer, the return of the genderiffic Trans Revolution dance party and the continuation of the popular Homomentum performance cabaret.

 Crowd at the two year anniversary of DQ Dirty Queer (DQ for short), the country’s only X-Rated Queer Open Mic has been running for around two years now-and i’d never been! Bad Perry. I know. Come ‘ere darlin’, tell me off! Ok, ok. Nevermind!
But finally, finally…I managed to go last Friday and not only was I present for the readings and performances, I also got to interview host Sossity Chiricuzio and I read some of my own writing!
