sPLURt is hot and gross at the same time...but who didn't love the drugs of the 90s?
Thursday
Work! – Brand spankin’ new night at Plan B (1305 SE 8th Ave), last home of infamous Booty by DJ Gutter Glamour. It evokes that feel good gay 90s RuPaul anthem…so you better work! Oh and leave the drama for yer mama, cuz this ain’t no place for shade just really good music in a fun space. Big back patio and the last day before the rain settles back in for the duration of winter.
Splurt! – The former hump day fest is just making it’s way to every third Thursday, but its not too far from Plan B, so you can probably make it to both this and Work! The “hardest workin’ DJs” in town say not to bring either your bad attitude or that sweater (you know the one) but with a theme like, 90s rave bukakke, there might be just a little dramz at this one. Nevertheless Thursdays are for exclamation points and peace, love unity and respect.

Big Freedia gets the sissies bouncin'!
Besides books, bikes and beer Portland, Oregon is also known for its local music. And the space between summer and fall is when we choose to put it center stage with MusicFest NW starting today and running through the 12th. There’s a smorgasboard of both local and out-of-town bands, DJs and performers and no lack of queers among them. Here’s where to find the gays amidst all the action.
Thursday the 9th sees sissy bounce New Orleans based Big Freedia self-dubbed queen diva, dick-eater, and late night creeper. The culturally queer, hot dirty south bounce has been called rap goes drag by Vanity Fair and is one of the most exciting things to happen to dance music disco. PDX could use an infusion of booty and color and I’d personally be excited to have other bounce-able bums at my back. This may be the most exciting performance of the entire fest.

As exciting as it may be to have a little pre-gay pizza b-ballin’ in the court across from Portsmouth, I have to go with my nostalgic gut and make an appearance at the Rotture (315 SE 3rd) for Nolita’s much missed Fruitcake. Unfortunately, we lost this party to the open arms and venues of the Bay area, and they love it too. Thankfully, they’re willing to share every once in awhile.
Trying to bring a little NYC flavor to Portland has always kept Fruitcake a fresh and intimate night, with incredible highlights such as last year’s Halloween party and New Years Eve featuring Beth Ditto.

The crowd held up fingers to signify which contestant's booty they thought bounced the best.
I used to live a few blocks away from Porky’s and remember happening across the awesomeness that was Booty. Stars aligned last night as the old crew (now geographically scattered) hosted a fabulous reunion party complete with a booty-bouncing contest and double dutch jump roping! Check out pics here.

Meghan Mayhem at last month's Cuda Cabaret
Besides the all weekend long Circus Artemis, which you absolutely should not miss, there’s plenty of other queer happenings worth dancing it out to this weekend. These are what I’m considering…
Tonight
The Gong Show – Bad Scene Productions brings you a 70s game show redux for the 2nd time to benefit outside in. Judged by The Mercury’s Wm. Steven Humphrey & Marjorie Skinner and William Batty & Sadie LaGuerre of Wanderlust Circus there’s bound to be nothing appropriate of the former Sissyboy members performing as KD Rang and Mami Tsunami hosted show.
But I’m especially excited to see openers Hammercise with members of the Sprockettes bringing you a whole new way to exercise for summer getting in shape.
Check out a video recap below for a taste:

Tahoe Jackson will perform Saturday at the Red Dress fundraiser. Photo by Wayne Bund
This beautiful spring day has all the local queers riled up and ready to mingle. And we have many opportunities to do so. The weekend kicks off tomorrow not only with the Tranny Roadshow but with Crave for the ladies Menz Room and Red Cap’s official Red Dress Pre-Party for the dudes, and Cuda Cabaret for the artfags.
The qPDX sponsored Crave brings the ladybeat back to Crush (1400 SE Morrison) with a Purple Rain theme that will have your doves crying and your feet dancing. DJs Alicious and Boy return to the decks with some 1999 love for your dripping purple heart. Oh and did I mention that Go Go Girls will bring out squirt guns to get the sweaty crowd into the wet, rainy spirit?

Yes, the springing spring has brought us yet another queertastic dance extravaganza…because we all.just.can’t.get.enough… Yes, it’s Blow Pony‘s 3rd birthday this Saturday at Rotture (315 SE 3rd) and I will be in full regalia with my crew, but I am starting to get a bit wary of the night that seems to keep expanding in both good and less good ways. Are we going to burst at the seams? Has BP become just another freakshow for the masses? This weekend is a test my friends. And it may be time for some of us to retreat into our smaller queer dominated domains for awhile. We shall see.
Luckily we have ample opportunity. Listening to the description of tomorrow’s new Blue Parrot (3416 N Lombard) hosted !!!DIRT BAG!!! glamourtronic queer dance pop party!!! I am certainly tempted to add another evening to my dance party schedule, full as it may be.

DJ Permanent Wave loves to sit on the lap of Christmas elves
With a dirty name like that, how could you not want to don your mustache, chaps, and prepare for a club night ride? DJs Permanent Wave, Yer Momm and Lucas take over Rotture (315 SE 3rd) tomorrow night and turn it into a Menz Room. But contrary to the more elite boy parties the “men” […]

I have only heard that the weekend started off right with Red Cap’s Bootie mashup party on Friday. Alas, these old bones needed at least one day of rest where I remained in my own neighborhood to attend a mellow house party. But I did make it out the following two nights starting with Portland’s reigning king of mixed queer nights Blow Pony on Saturday.
While I am plenty nostalgic, I have nothing but love for the success of my favorite events. Blo Po has clearly blown up. And while I am very happy for them, their new found fame may have some detrimental effects to my formerly favorite night.
