Airport security will never be the same
The holiday season brought us a special Homomentum performance featuring the cold and snappy celebration of all things queer and seasonal. And you can catch just a glimpse of the white winter wonder with our Snowpocalypse photo gallery.
Performances included a very special TSA burlesque from KT Kusmal and Venus Envy, a final performance from drag queen provocateur Champagne, and a rendition of the Tchaikovsky’s Sugar Plum Fairy dance from Catitude.

'Fame Monster' album covers
Friend of qPDX Katey Pants had some great insights to offer on Lady Gaga‘s new album Fame Monster and she so graciously allowed us to share them here. Obviously, I’m already smitten with the new music video for Bad Romance but what do you think of the new release?

The Gossip
The excitement was palpable when Southerners turned Portlanders The Gossip started to really make it big with their last release Standing in the Way of Control. It’s hard to believe that was three years ago. In the interim frontwoman Beth Ditto has become a spokeswoman for chub love and queer rights and culture, appeared naked on the cover of two magazines, started her own plus-size clothing line, and in general burst onto the international stage as a powerful, innovative and inspirational rock goddess.
With this year’s release of Music for Men there is no doubt that the world is has heard the bold and beautiful voice of Ditto and is responding in a big way. Saturday they bring the sound home for those of us who have been appreciating the no-nonsense flamboyancy for a decade.

Homomentum‘s first performance in the aptly named E Room Tomb was a dark Halloween success. Fall has seen a slowdown in the queer nightlife calendar, but by shortly after 8pm the Tomb was filled with bright eyed audience members. Clocking in at just an hour it left us wanting more, which, luckily, we only have to wait a month for.

'Pornography'
This weekend saw yours truly at two of the most boytastic movies of the weekend. Both Pornography and Greek Pete held graphic gay male sex as integral to the plot, though the message and approach was vastly different.
I also experienced a much shorter line at the ladies room than I am accustomed to.
I was highly skeptical of both films as the lights dimmed, and I was rather unsure about Pornography until the very end. But though I would not watch it for pleasure, it raises some very interesting questions about the gaze and what really excites about porn.

Last night’s show featuring ex-Tribe 8 member Lynnee Breedlove was a welcome interim into a night of rockin’ bands. The kind of show I have not had the pleasure of attending in awhile. And while the appearance of Mighty Real tour partner Silas Howard was missed Breedlove’s opposite of stripping one-(wo)man-show was an enjoyable tribute to gender non-conformity, personal anecdote and two recently passed leaders of the gay and lesbian movement, Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon.

'Sissyboy Washes Up' Photo by Marty Davis / Just Out
This weekend was pretty epic. Indeed the fact/excuse that this review is a day or two late is testament to just how big a queer party weekend it was.
Friday started it off with an extremely packed and sweaty Fruitcake which may quickly outgrow its britches, and perhaps already has, in the fine tradition of upstarts such as Booty. But it was Saturday’s combo of 2 big returns, Sissyboy and Blow Pony, that truly raised the roof.

Catitude at the last Kick/Ball/Change
This Sunday saw the final installment of the queer dance extravaganza, Kick/Ball/Change. The performance, which included regulars such as Untrained, I, Catitude, and Beefcake Burlesque, also featured newcomers Under the Radar and a sexy solo by Carlee Smith. And though there were moments of hilarity and fabulousness, the performance was also tinged with sadness. And now we must be in mourning.

The River City Riders
A great way to kick off Pride, last night’s Gender Bender at the E Room had all the right trappings. There were various forms of drag and performance, fund-raising and drama. Oh, and some really amazing outfits that you can check out in our extensive Gender Bender photo gallery.

This fabulous fur coat, modeled here by DRun, came courtesy the impeccably dressed Shannon H. It was gleefully passed around
When I see cupcakes and donuts at a size-positive event the stereotype occasionally makes me cringe. But then at about midnight I get the munchies and am super stoked that I don’t have to make my ride stop at a bad 24 hour fast food joint to satisfy my drunken cravings. Indeed, this measure of skepticism, relief and fun were a good characturization of the first ‘Bounce.’
