Congratulations to first time drag performer Sally Ingus Wilder, who took Miss Thing by storm Wednesday night and walked home with the title. If you weren’t there you missed out. Luckily we have some great photos provided by Allison May and Sarah Ditson to provide just a hint at the amazingness.
You may also experience Sally’s winning performance, featuring the live vocals of Allison May in this video below.

We can be disappointed by the real Academy Awards but Portland is great at making shunning the mainstream in favor of our own winners. Homomentum‘s Gaycademy Awards will be just such a show.
We have all been enthralled by the last five boldly themed shows and Saturday should be no different with a double dose of surprise out of town guests Jukie Sunshine and Alysia Angel as well as […]
  Trans porn star Buck Angel
When I first heard about Portland queer porn showings I was elated. Slated to be at the intimate and aptly named Rumpspanker’s what could be better than a horde of horny queers reveling in their sexy voyeurism together? But alas, the night was moved south to Crush (1400 SE Morrison) and refashioned with a hefty $10 entry fee.
And while it would be pretty fantastic to join in this Wednesday to watch The Buck Stops Here with the infamous Buck Angel himself in attendance, I really don’t think I can pony up that many bills for a movie I could rent with my sweetie in the seclusion of my own clean bedroom. That said, there will be raffle items from It’s My Pleasure and SheBop, not mention items from the Angel himself. Plus a steamy Q&A after the screening.

  Sally Ingus Wilder debuts
This month’s Miss Thing: Broadway Babes on Wednesday is a tribute to all things showtune. Hosted by Heklina and the ladies of Trannyshack, San Francisco Miss Thing takes to the Fez (316 SW 11th Ave) monthly to showcase thematic drag numbers that have a chance of winning it all. And by all I mean a “best of show” performer will be chosen to compete in November to become Miss Thing. The winner will win $500 cash and a trip to San Francisco to perform at the legendary Trannyshack.

Who says feminists are no fun? Combining the talents of one of the last lady-centric bookstores with the superpower that is The Deli, In Other Words (8 N Killingsworth) hosts the Fag Drag this Friday at 8pm.
A show that promises neither the straight up king or queen, the gender wild flags are sure to be flying high with the encouragement to BYOD: Bring your own…

The real faces of Blow Pony, Chelsea Starr and Blake Cedric. Photo courtesy Wesley Walton
I have only heard that the weekend started off right with Red Cap’s Bootie mashup party on Friday. Alas, these old bones needed at least one day of rest where I remained in my own neighborhood to attend a mellow house party. But I did make it out the following two nights starting with Portland’s reigning king of mixed queer nights Blow Pony on Saturday.
While I am plenty nostalgic, I have nothing but love for the success of my favorite events. Blo Po has clearly blown up. And while I am very happy for them, their new found fame may have some detrimental effects to my formerly favorite night.

 Artemis Chase
Along with the return of popular Logo show RuPaul’s Drag Race, returned Portland’s own Drag Race with host Poison Waters earlier this February. The new Red Cap Thursday staple goes for 13 weeks with 8 contestants who will be lead through a variety of creative challenges. One will be chosen the weekly winner, and awarded prizes donated by sponsors and community partners. At the end of the series, one contestant will come out on top to claim the grand prize which includes $1,000.00 cash and round trip airfare, lodging, and VIP party passes for 2.
One of the favored contestants, Artemis Chase, is a much beloved local queen who almost made it onto the national show. But today even her race towards the local championship has ended as she has pulled out of the local competition.

 Pretty Bois drag kings
Those ever classy ladies at Crave may have moved their thematic parties to once every two months, but that only makes them bigger and better. Tomorrow night’s Gold Masquerade party should encapsulate a very dynamic February filled with debaucherous celebration in true Midas theme.
I fully expect the southeast digs at Crush (1400 SE Morrison) to positively sparkle with golden deliciousness as surely the hand of the legendary king will have touched every surface, drapery and painted go go dancer body. And if you come so mysteriously masked, you get reduced admission all night.

Aw, Valentine’s Day can be so cute you throw up in your mouth a little. And who knows what to expect from those freaky performance artists at Homomentum when they take on the pink and red clashing holiday. Puke is not out of the question, especially when organizer and emcee Max Voltage makes the claim that this month’s Love Bugs has the biggest lineup yet with Under the Radar, […]
