Just our yearly take on the best albums and EPs by queer artists this year. We don’t hold back our local bias but it is an international list, and I think Canada might be kicking our asses a li’l this year. […] Merry Christmas everybody. Here’s a little video clip from the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus performing a very Lady Gaga Christmas carol from their recent show “Joy to the (Modern) World.” Hope it helps make your Yuletide gay. Here’s some extra info of the multitude of topics we discuss in qPDX’s 3rd podcast including Lohan on Ellen and in Playboy, Angels in America, more holigays, Siri abortion controversy and more. Plus, can we sue people for having bad movies? Can I wear what Kim Kardashian wears to work? [display_podcast] Continue reading » This Sunday Lady Gaga took to full drag character Jo Calderone for the MTV Video Music Awards. She won “Best Female Performer” dressed as a man and queered the VMAs further by staying in character for questions. Most of what I’ve seen on Facebook so far has been pretty positive, except for comment condemning the smoking and drinking. Here are some samples: “…the most conservative she’s ever looked…” “I like that she’s in drag but she’s not doing some really gross misogynist thing to a female dancer…” “…it didn’t piss me off, points for Gaga!…I was worried she would do that ‘don’t worry I’m still a hot girl underneath it all’ switch at the end, but she didn’t, she held to it, and nailed the body language…” “Anyone who can be so creepy that they make Britney Spears feel uncomfortable… you have to love them…” “The crowd reactions are so varied! Beiber at 4:33 is a personal favorite.” What to you think? You can watch the whole video beneath the break. Continue reading » Not many have little to say about Lady Gaga. My relationship and understanding of Gaga is complicated. Mainly on a thoughtful level- she is a marketing machine, she rips off queer culture, she uses queers as pawns for fucked up companies like Target, and her intense ego mania has made her the self-declared mother of all freaks. This bullshit pisses me off. However; I like her music. I like her videos. I enjoy following her in the news. She’s a really unhealthy piece of gay candy that I often indulge in with and without the guilt. So when I was able to get an advanced copy of Born This Way- her 3rd album outside of her monster series- I was more than excited. Continue reading » When I got this press release in my inbox I thought, at first, it was a spoof from The Onion or something. Not so. Glitter and glamor will, indeed, be coming to your virtual farm. I don’t really know what to say. But my mom will be happy…they’re two of her favorite things… Anyway, I just thought this was too weird not to share: Lady Gaga and Zynga today announced a partnership to launch the mega-artist’s new album Born this Way. Launching May 17, the first-of-its-kind program gives “little monsters” throughout the world a first listen to exclusive un-released songs from the upcoming album when they visit GagaVille, a uniquely designed neighboring farm in FarmVille (There will be unicorns and crystals. Enough said.). Continue reading » Does your Monday call for a little Lady Gaga pick me up? Well everyone’s buzzing about her new “Judas” video release. It features hot screen Irish-Catholic Norman Reedus, getting a lipstick gun to the face. The Boondock Saints actor is a perfect choice as he does the gritty religious sexy so well. To add to both the discussion and laugh factor I’ve also given you a little Weird Al spoof of “Born This Way” called “Perform this Way.” Initially Gaga refused to let Al release the song, but apparently in the last few days is has finally been given the green light (not sure what the drama was there) with proceeds going to the HRC (meh…). I’ve also included the acapella rendition of “Born This Way” which debuted this weekend as part of HBO’s concert event “Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden.”She may be a lot of hype but you really can’t say the dame can’t sing. Damn, belt it girl! And finally, for good measure, the original “Born This Way” video, just in case you haven’t gone Gaga enough… Update: Oh, and Gaga also just released a new single today, “Edge of Glory,” inspired by the death of Gaga’s grandfather in 2010. Upcoming album Born This Way drops May 23rd. Continue reading » The music may not be particularly innovative, but it will get you on the dance floor. There is plenty of odd and intense artistry in the music video (below) that is a part of Lady Gaga‘s unreleased new album, ‘Born this Way,’ is set to be released in May Produced by the Lady herself, “Scheiße,” the song below, premiered as part of the Formichetti‘s first menswear show in Paris last week. The house of Mugler is newly under the creative direction of Nicola Formichetti, Gaga’s costume cohort and personal stylist. The video stars Canadian model Rick Genest, who has a tattooed a skull on his face and crazy zombie innards on his arms and torso. Seriously, he is one of the Top 10 Physically Modified People in the World. Continue reading » Lady Gaga Concert: A supernova of faggitude To say Lady Gaga rocked Portland is an understatement. She exploded into a supernova of faggitude. Her pro-gay, pro-freak, pro-throw-your-tampon-at-high-school-bullies shook the very foundations that upholds Portland as the “keep-it-weird” center of the world. Continue reading » Because qPDX was unable to make it to last night’s Lady Gaga show, we asked several of our friends to give us their highlights of last night’s show at the Rose Garden as well as agreeing to show us their amazing costumes in this Portland does Lady Gaga photo gallery. We encourage you to tell us about your experience in the comments below, and if you have pictures you want posted send them my way! (alley@qpdx.com) Continue reading » |
