‘Verb’ is now a dance action

verbToday’s Just Out has a a mini-feature for Saturday’s In Other Words fundraiser Verb written by yours truly. Might as well move your feet for a good cause no?

There are a plethora of popular Portland Pride parties happening Saturday June 13, the night before the big parade. But only one hosted by and benefiting a women’s and feminist bookstore would appreciate such overuse of alliteration.

Dolly Parton covers for a cause

dolly

Dolly still looks fabu in her 60s...

Originally printed in Just Out:

Dolly Parton may not be an out queer herself (though, believe me, the rumors swirl like an overactive hot tub about Parton and longtime pal Judy Ogle), but she’s always been a champion of gay, lesbian, bi and trans causes. In a musical genre so often dominated by gun-toting good ole boys, the buxom beauty is fearless; she’s even received hate mail and threats for her status as a gay icon. What better way to honor her than to recruit some of Portland’s finest musicians while raising money for a diverse celebration of women in music, Siren Nation. The Dolly Parton Hoot Night cover extravaganza takes place at the Mission Theater (1624 NW Glisan) Saturday, June 6.

Bounce’s first night out

This fabulous fur coat, modeled here by DRun, came courtesy the impeccably dressed Shannon H. It was gleefully passed around

When I see cupcakes and donuts at a size-positive event the stereotype occasionally makes me cringe. But then at about midnight I get the munchies and am super stoked that I don’t have to make my ride stop at a bad 24 hour fast food joint to satisfy my drunken cravings. Indeed, this measure of skepticism, relief and fun were a good characturization of the first ‘Bounce.’
