Hollywood to Dollywood
Girls shorts – 5pm
An interesting collection of love by bicycle, first times, cool kid music, depressing diseases and a coming of age motion storybook. But I’m particularly excited by the look at lesbian (anti?)fashion icon, the wallet chain, a clothing article for which I fought wholeheartedly in 8th grade and won the right to wear in middle school. Also local Director of two of the films, Casey Parks, will be in attendance, along with Ellie Krnich.
Twin brothers embark on a journey to track down Dolly Parton for their perfect movie part, traveling in a camper named Jolene. Think an American Priscilla Queen of the Desert with southern charm?

Planned Parenthood‘s Equal Access Fund aims to provide helps gynecological exams for women and transmen who aren’t covered by state pregnancy-prevention funding but meet the same economic requirements. Dress/Undress is a fashion show to raise money for the fund. The show takes place tonight at the Fez, emceed by Sossity Chiricuzio, fashion re-designer, sex radical activist and producer/host of Dirty Queer.
We took a minute to sit down with EAF volunteer Nicole Boyer to talk about tonight’s event.
What’s your name and what’s your involvement with the PPCW Equal Access Fund?
My name is Nicole Boyer, and I am PPCW’s Volunteer Programs Coordinator as well as a member of our LGBTQI Committee. I’ve been involved with PPCW for 4 years now, and am passionate about spreading the word about our diverse services and patient population. I and many other PPCW staff contribute $ to the Equal Access Fund from each and every paycheck because we feel so strongly about increasing services for our local LGBTQI community.
What made you think of a fashion show as a fundraiser? Do you think a fashion show is even more likely to be interesting to an LGBT crowd?

Thierry Mugler menswear. AP Photo
The music may not be particularly innovative, but it will get you on the dance floor. There is plenty of odd and intense artistry in the music video (below) that is a part of Lady Gaga‘s unreleased new album, ‘Born this Way,’ is set to be released in May
Produced by the Lady herself, “Scheiße,” the song below, premiered as part of the Formichetti‘s first menswear show in Paris last week. The house of Mugler is newly under the creative direction of Nicola Formichetti, Gaga’s costume cohort and personal stylist.
The video stars Canadian model Rick Genest, who has a tattooed a skull on his face and crazy zombie innards on his arms and torso. Seriously, he is one of the Top 10 Physically Modified People in the World.

Perez Hilton was the most Googled gay this year. A blogger? Really? There's hope for me yet
Ah, it’s that time of the year when we stop writing about real news and just rehash everything that happened over the past year as if we weren’t there the first time. My own versions of the year in review and the best of 2010 won’t begin until next week, but that doesn’t mean we can start with remembering 2010 through the company that became an everyday verb. That’s right, I’m talking about Google, the ubiquitous search engine where all internet life begins and ends. And here’s a list of the most searched gays in 2010, according to the People’s Republic of Google.

Jean-Paul Gaultier presents Beth Ditto with flowers.
After a few sneak peeks Beth Ditto’s newest closet line for Evans has finally been unveiled. With frocks and jackets at very reasonable prices it’s already the newsest favorite of the plus sized hipster set. For an elegant night out I’m a big fan of the drawstring maxi but my laid back PDX style naturally gravitates towards the oversized parka with plenty of pockets.
But Ditto isn’t limiting herself to the ready-to-wear set. She recently strutted down the catwalk for Jean-Paul Gaultier to show off some of his upcoming Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Inspired by Joan Jett and other influential lady rockers, this newest line celebrates female power not only through a hard edge but by the very visible size of Beth Ditto.

You won’t be able to get it for 3 days, and really, I’m not sure American can get it at all without crossing the pond, but local diva/heroine Beth Ditto‘s new plus size line of clothes is almost here (well, there). And today a few shots of the sized 14-32 line were unveiled in UK Vogue.
A nod to London Fashion Week, Ditto’s designs…[reflect] several decades of style with […]
Mikey takes part in the "gun show" at Dingos
The Real L Word just presented its finale with a Portland appearance by co-star Mikey Koffman the recent weekend of the 15th and I’m all kinds of ambivalent and intrigued.
Firstly, many Portlanders may not have tuned into the show at all, seeing as Los Angeles seems so different from us, even if we do share a sexuality. Autostraddle gives a really good critique of the show’s shortcomings while at the same time giving some background and advice for ways to grow.
And then there’s Mikey herself. I have not had the chance to meet her, as the interview below was via email, but there are two very distinct impressions as far as I can. First is the egotistical shade-wearing alpha-bitch as presented by one unhappy E-Room attendee on Mikey’s Official Fan Page that has since been deleted. And then there’s the gregarious and down-to-earth woman that comes across in this ShewWired interview from early in the season.

No shoes for you, Supergay! Click for full screenshot
Shoe giant and Portland/Beaverton local ADIDAS, who currently hold a market share of 33% for athletic shoes, have banned gay terminology from their mi ADIDAS shoe customization service that allows shoe junkies such Alley Hector and myself to customize their latest kicks.
Words like “gay”, “lesbian”, “faggot” and “dyke” are banned – along with “homo”, and ethnic slurs.
While playing around with the mi ADIDAS website today, I noticed it’s embroidery feature that allows users to add custom text to different parts of the shoe. Thinking that my buddy Supergay has been talking about getting some new boots, I tried entering the term “Supergay” – only to be informed that “profanity” had been detected and my embroidery was not allowed.

Jimmy Choos, made famous by 'Sex and the City' typically cost between $175 and $1,095 at high-end retailers were sold for $50 to $200 at H&M.
In news that is the gayest not technically gay gossip, Euro hipster fashionista-for-less giant H&M is finally coming to Portland. It’s slated for Pioneer Place coming this summer.
Our broke but fashionable local audience has been foaming at the mouth for our own store for years now as we’ve watched it break into random markets like suburban western Massachusetts, or open 12 stores in 4 square feet of expensive NYC space.

A couple of really great events almost snuck by our radar! But we queers can roll with the punches so whether part of the younger crew or the “grown-ups” we’ve got lots for you to do tonight.
SMYRC hosts its annual Queer and Trans Youth prom tonight, Circus Smyrcus, at the (for now) SMYRC headquarters (2100 SE Belmont). The alcohol and tobacco free event for the Q set between the ages of 14 and 23, takes place tonight from 8 to midnight and will feature the music stylings of DJ Tara, free food and raffle prizes. And unlike your typical suburban high school you don’t need to buy overpriced, couple-centric tickets cuz this party is free.
