Every time we think this horrific saga might just end, there’s another wonderful wrinkle. Local station KGW aired an interview with Breedlove wherein the young man expresses anger over more of Sam Adams lying and evasion. Continue reading » Stop violence in and against our community! Here are some of the celebrations happening all across Oregon. If I have missed any let me know! Continue reading » UPDATE: It seems like it really is true. The LA times now reports that Jackson was pronounced dead by doctors. BBC News is also reporting his death, along with MSNBC, and the Associated Press. CNN has so far not confirmed his death. Previously: It’s a rough day for 80’sd idols. We’ve just heard that after Farrah Fawcett died of a long standing battle with cancer, Michael Jackson has died of cardiac arrest, says TMZ.com. CNN, however, reports he was taken to the hospital following cardiac arrest but will not confirm his death. More details to follow in a few minutes. Continue reading » We rarely do fluff here at QPDX.com, although I won’t claim that we always do *serious* reporting either. We sometimes post things just for the eye candy factor of them – but oh so rarely for the girlqueers. We know that’s a complex issue – what’s considered “hot” in dyke circles isn’t always what the mainstream intarweb can provide. So enjoy this sizzling list! And the term “butch” is used to encompass a spectrum of masculinities-there are GQ, old-skool butches and Trans identified people there too. Some of my faves are posted underneath the cut…!
Continue reading » It’s been pretty quiet around this issue in the last few days until we know what exactly will happen next and who is doing what. As far as I know, some people very involved in the community are considering a town hall style meeting, and BlowPony folks such as Airick, Jose and Heather (who got her nose broken after Blow Po) are going to the Portland Police SMRT (sexual minorities round table) with the police next month. I will most more info on the time, date etc as it becomes available. Audrey, who was the victim of transphobic and sexist harassment and told by the police that she didn’t need to file a report, has successfully filed a report against her attacker and the issue is being dealt with (we hope) by the police/courts/authorities. Continue reading » ![]() Mayor Sam Adams. Oregonian file photo Oregon Attorney General John Kroger just released a report today proclaiming that there is not suffucient evidence to pursue any criminal charges against Mayor Sam Adams (PDF). “We have concluded that there is no evidence to charge, let alone convict, Adams with illegal sexual contact with a minor,” according to Kroger’s investigation. In addition, the report found no evidence that Adams’ 2008 mayoral campaign violated the law when Adams denied having sexual relations with the young man. Continue reading » So allegedly, gay celeb blogger/gossip queen Perez Hilton was assaulted by the Black Eyed Peas’ Will.I.Am. Will.I.Am denies any allegations – and so they have taken it to the streets internet to resolve this dispute…and what follows is a messy frolic of tweeting/not tweeting, timing, and the importance of not forgetting the special T word, traffic. Continue reading » I just found out via Facebook that Bacardi has decided it’s a great idea to come up with a sizist, sexist ad campaign for their Bacardi rum. Another example of stupid people getting paid too much? I really feel that addressing sizism and sexism in the queer community and in society in general is part of my “mission” as a queer person to create a more equal, more loving, more respectful and diverse society. There are so many hot big girls and boys (and everyone in between) in this town. Plus, we all know queers drink a lot. (let’s be honest, here) Fuck You Bacardi, I don’t support any alcohol that uses discriminatory practices in their advertising ! Continue reading » Pride is over, our hangovers have subsided, the messes have mostly been cleaned up – but what remains is the foul aftertaste of violence, harassment and threats towards individuals in our community. This is new – what is going on, queer Portland? Continue reading » |
