I’ve had it in my head for awhile now that I want to start a podcast. I want you to take qPDX with you wherever you go, on your iPod on the bus, whatever. Maybe I just like the sound of my own voice (metaphorically) but […] Ok Cupid is a dating site that has love for not only the gays, lesbians and tragically hip but also for the stats and geekery (see: tragically hip) and they have just named Portland, a lover of all those things as well, the most promiscuous city in the USA. So I guess we “love” each other a lot as well with Time magazine calling us “Oversexed Oregon.” In general the “liberal media” was more congratulatory than chastising and the Huffington Post has some great cityscapes of the winners as well as sex-related infographics (talk about hipster geekdom), and the Village Voice was just jealous. Continue reading » This Wednesday the Willamette Week, the alternative newsweekly that was given the rights to publish the Pride Guide this year, released the 2011 official Portland Pride Guide. Unfortunately, you won’t see us in it. qPDX has had an ad in the Pride Guide for the last 4 years so it feels a little sad to be left out this year, but it just had to be. Ultimately, it was about cost, but there are a few things that gave us pause, including the implication that Willamette Week wouldn’t necessarily run articles concerning the LGBT community without striking a business deal. Continue reading » Cali rapper Lil B has come forward with an announcement to call his upcoming new album “I’m Gay”. Lil B, who is straight, is setting out to “flip the meaning of the word ‘gay’ and use its other definition, happy” because he has “major love for the gay and lesbian community, and I just want […] So it’s been quite a week of reliving 2010. Truthfully I’m a little burned out. But before you shed all your summer skin and head into the depths of 2011 fresh and new here are a few last looks back at some of the “best” random sh** of the year… Most asked question What time is the dyke march? (A wink and a nod to the amusing insights of Katey Pants). Best LGBT quote of the year “You know if I could go back in time, I would lez it up 24 hours. Believe me, one thing I would not miss? Balls. Terrible little things.” Continue reading » This what what caught your eye or sparked heated debate on these very pages in 2010. 5 – Hot gay boys do Katy Perry’s “California Girls.” Gay version of the biggest pop hit of the summer went viral. So hot it melted your popsicle. 4 – Aden Jaric jailed after Miss Thing […] You still have a few more days to wait until I unveil my 2010 best ofs (I’m really trying to sell it can’t you tell?). But the Portland Mercury’s multi-author celebrity gossip and giggle fest One Day at a Time has used the year end opportunity to recount every headline that the bisexual Lindsay Lohan made. It’s actually quite a bit. Below are some of my favorites:
Ah, it’s that time of the year when we stop writing about real news and just rehash everything that happened over the past year as if we weren’t there the first time. My own versions of the year in review and the best of 2010 won’t begin until next week, but that doesn’t mean we can start with remembering 2010 through the company that became an everyday verb. That’s right, I’m talking about Google, the ubiquitous search engine where all internet life begins and ends. And here’s a list of the most searched gays in 2010, according to the People’s Republic of Google. Continue reading » In a news of the weird what may have been anything from homophobia to a childish prank to a mistake has taken on a life of its own when a $16 coupon for Jiffy Lube’s “signature service” addressed to a “Turd Burgler” sparked a $150K discrimination lawsuit.
Continue reading » I may be part of the sensationalizing media for even mentioning the story of the man who had sex reassignment surgery once to become a woman and then again to regain his manhood, but I can’t help but comment on his assertion that they should be banned because those who want a sex change are “completely deluded.” Unfortunately, I think it is Mr. Kane (formerly Ms. Kane and Mr. Hashimi) who is misguided. In the 1980s a one Sam Hashimi, a powerful investment fund type, had a sex-change procedure to become “glamorous interior designer Samantha Kane,” a woman so convincing he says he had no problem attracting men.
