Dirtbag! A stellar dance party – The only night that culminated with a 1AM Smiths dance climax. And besides this is how last month’s free party was described “…kinda totally awesome and dreamy and everyone was making out and feeling fucking free and stuff…”

  Project Mayor-Man winner "SamDroid" Mayor Sam Adams is a good sport. Portland is irreverent and expects its mayor to match our weirdness step for step. So when Stumptown Comics hosted a contest to dress up the Mayor as a superhero he was all about it. He’s just thankful to be fully clothed, even if it does mean several layers of spanks. Not sure that’s something I need to know about our city-leader-in-chief but there you have it.

  Self Portrait by Brian Patrick from the 2010 contest Every year Just Out has an amateur photo contest; I was even a judge last year. Now it’s time to gear up for 2011. Here are the deets below:
Entries are limited to 10 per person. Any means of snapping that award-worthy original shot is fine: iPhone, digital camera or that old fashioned standard picture-taker, but we must receive a printed/hard copy — no digital submissions accepted. (We’d prefer you didn’t mat the image.)
On that note, no print size is too small or large — however, as we caution every year, your masterpieces will not be returned. To repeat, you won’t get ‘em back.
What you will get is recognition, one way or another. A winner will be selected for each of the six categories listed below, and all submissions will be displayed throughout the month of July at Q Center. Details on a forthcoming artists’ reception to come.

This time she explorers the self-creation of gender as it relates to queer identity using a very (pseudo?) intellectual scale she designed herself called the Gender Perceptivity Scale. I’m sure there will also just be plenty of hotness to perceive.

  Reeves and Phoenix in a still from the original 'My Own Private Idaho' I definitely think James Franco has earned his toaster for being an honorary gay. Following his many gay onscreen portrayals Franco has teamed up with local queer film director Gus Van Sant for 2 art films in an exhibition called “Unfinished,” set to show at the Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills this weekend through April 9th.
Both are based on Van Sant’s 1991 classic My Own Private Idaho starring Keanu Reeves and the late River Phoenix, and are directed by James Franco. Endless Idaho, a 12 hour Cremaster–like monster, features edited outtakes, deleted scenes, alternate takes and behind-the-scenes footage from the movie as well as interviews with actual street hustlers. The score is by Luke Paquin and Tim O’Keefe. It’s a “behind the scenes” behemoth that isn’t like to keep the average fan’s interest for 12 hours, but is a goldmine for the truly devoted film process buff.

We, the editors, are three trans artists who believe art and literature are two of the most vital parts to our world today. At this moment, there is no magazine which brings all transgender, transsexual and gender variant writers and artists to the forefront. We believe it is time to publish such a magazine!
The purpose of Bodies of Work is to publish and promote literature and art that celebrates the diverse visions and understandings of the transsexual, transgender and gender-variant international community through language and image. We want to inspire and be inspired by the innovative output of our communities and come together with trans artists of all genres in creative discourse. We want to engage and support our creative processes and learn how trans artists and writers create.

  Thought-provoking and avant garde video and installation artist Gia Goodrich is looking for a diverse array of individuals for her next pieces. Not for the faint of heart, her last show at Disjecta featured some disturbing self-choking imagery as well as some comedic, but still very naked and raw, video installations. So here’s the pitch if you’re so bold.
My name is Gia Goodrich and I am a graduate student at PNCA working on my thesis project. The following is a call for participation for my thesis work. The first iteration of the piece will be showing in the MFA central gallery at PNCA in March. This will be a show documenting the process. The second will be the final piece that will show as part of the MFA Thesis exhibition in May.
This piece is dependent upon involvement from individuals of the queer community in Portland its surrounding areas.
