Tonight
sPLURt! episode 2 – I’m starting this weekend off tonight because how could I not highlight a bukakke-themed 90?s rave revival party? Really, I kinda think the 90s are back with a vengeance and I did always have a hard time letting go of the Peace, Love, Unity, Respect mantra. Plus with a photo like theirs and a promise to go home covered in something it’s likely we’ll all be pre-squirtin’ before the real weekend even begins.

Drag Queen Bingo wine and food tasting – Hosted by eminent drag queen MC Poison Waters how can you go wrong with tiny tasty hors d’oeuvres and some fancy sips?

The Cliks play tomorrow at Roseland
We are all in a tizzy over Thursday’s Rose Garden Arena Lady Gaga concert, whether we are going or not. Those of us unable or unwilling to pass the hundred dollar mark for nosebleed seats are still poised by the radio hoping Z100 will pick us to sit in the front row.
And how much more can you say about Lady Gaga besides the multitude of videos, announcements and arguments we’ve already covered?

In the never-ending saga that is California’s Prop 8 trial the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals continued the stay that Chief U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn Walker had previously lifted, until oral arguments could be heard on Dec 6th.
“It’s saddening just to know that we still have to keep waiting for this basic human right,” Marcia Davalos, of Los Angeles, a health care advocate […]
So Wednesday I posted a Cazwell video for the boys, so I figured the brand new release from girl favorites Tegan and Sara would be a good balance. And now the twins have different haircuts so you can tell them apart. Bonus!

Hercules and Love Affair's Andy Butler (left) and Kim Ann Foxman getting frisky before the show

nomy lamm and the Whole Wide World with Tender Forever and Timmy Straw – A vague description to be sure, but an audience collaborative performance featuring nomy lamm? I wouldn’t dare miss it. This fat, disabled, queer activist has one of the most amazing voices I’ve ever heard and an avant garde art sensibility like a hard candy coated version of Marina Abramovic. And that hipper-than-thou not really off-the-beaten path Disjecta location (8371 N Interstate) is a perfect venue. Sprinkle in the sweet and melancholy croonings of Tender Forever and the local electro flavor of Timmy Straw and you got yourself a show that would rival…well…
Hercules and Love Affair at the Hawthorne Theater – How could there even be any competition for this? Neo-electro-disco finely crafted with haunting vocals and danceable beats, unmatchable style and hotness for the girls, boys and everything in between should mean a packed house. And believe me, since it’s been about a decade since I have seen nomy lamm, and a lifetime since I’ve seen HLA, it’s going to be a really tough decision. Oh and did I mention I named the self-titled Hercules & Love Affair debut the best album of 2008? Either way I intend to try to cool off afterword at…

We all rejoiced when Prop 8 was overturned in California last week but saddened that a stay was put in place to stop enforcement right away. Today newlywed-wannabes waited with baited breath to see if they would be able to tie the knot today. However, it looks like they made need a little patience, as the stay will not be lifted until next Wednesday August 18th.

C.L.I.T. Fest (Combating Latent Inequality Together) is a DIY punk fest with music, workshops, discussions, a flea market and picnicking organized to address sexism, homophobia, and transphobia in punk and to celebrate the strengths and potential of our community.
And it’s a big community. The lineup includes a vast array of local and international bands (I think about 25…and 1 is from Sweden) including Palo Verde featuring the guitar god(des), long hair-swinging, riffs of Lauren K Newman, who is at once frightening and awe-inspiring.

Cazwell isn’t even a little bit local. In fact, this summer was probably the first time he’s been to Portland. But I love his simple hip pop and his unabashed lewdness, and this boystown reaction to Katy Pery’s summer anthem is getting almost as much attention as a Lady Gaga video.
And are there hot, sweaty men flashing brightly colored underwear, licking matching popsicles and ice cream cones? Check. So here ya go folks.

Brownstein and Armison as part of Thunderant
The world’s love affair with quaint little Portland continues as the Independent Film Channel swoops up SNL’s Fred Armison and local guitar goddess Carrie Brownstein for a new show taking place in and shot locally called Portlandia.
Brownstein and Armison have been working together in a comedy project called Thunderant for awhile now parodying some very Portland-esque characters. Initially I was underwhelmed with mediocre skits lackadaisically making fun of feminist bookstores or bicycle protests, but I’m hopeful a new infusion from collaborators and writers has inspired them to grow beyond the obvious. And IFC execs wanted a cohesive setting to pull these divergent sketches together.
