Team Dresch takes on Brazil and their 10th anniversary celebration of Ladyfest

Team Dresch rocking out in Santos, Brazil

Team Dresch has been the seminal dyke punk band since Donna Dresch, Kaia Wilson, Jody Bleyle and Marci Martinez first started rocking out in the Pacific Northwest’s thriving 90s rock scene. They’ve been through breakups, hiatuses, drummers, moves, solo projects, parenthood and more. And much has changed in both the music scenes and queer communities since then. What hasn’t changed is their ability to rock your socks off.

Rumors of a Team Dresch reunion swirled in 2006 and they promised more shows and new releases in 2007 and while we are still waiting for some of these super tight new releases in 2010 the ladies do continue to bring their widespread talents together for various shows around the world, the latest of which just took place at Brazil’s Ladyfest.

QDoc 2010 spreads queer documentary love all weekend long

Portand’s QDoc is the only queer documentary film festival in the US (and one of two in the world) held annually at the intimate Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton). That’s pretty special. But not surprising for our hometown.

It’s also a great kick-off to Pride season to reflect on our LGBT roots before we start the party. Several qPDXers got the chance to screen some of these films and will be providing reviews in the next couple days. But the folks organizing the fest have put together a pretty fabulous preview on their own:

Do your weekend right

Meghan Mayhem at last month's Cuda Cabaret

Besides the all weekend long Circus Artemis, which you absolutely should not miss, there’s plenty of other queer happenings worth dancing it out to this weekend. These are what I’m considering…

Tonight

The Gong ShowBad Scene Productions brings you a 70s game show redux for the 2nd time to benefit outside in. Judged by The Mercury’s Wm. Steven Humphrey & Marjorie Skinner and William Batty & Sadie LaGuerre of Wanderlust Circus there’s bound to be nothing appropriate of the former Sissyboy members performing as KD Rang and Mami Tsunami hosted show.

But I’m especially excited to see openers Hammercise with members of the Sprockettes bringing you a whole new way to exercise for summer getting in shape.

Check out a video recap below for a taste:

Colbert calls out antigay rentboy renter George Alan Rekers

George Alan Rekers

In last night’s Alpha Dog of the Week political satirist Stephen Colbert profiled Family Research Council co-founder George Alan Rekers co-founder. In case you missed it Rekers, vehemently anti-gay leader of a group that tries to “cure” homosexuality, was caught in an airport after paying for a 10-day trip to Europe with a rentboy who was referred to as a “travel assistant.”

The Colbert […]

U.S. Soldiers in Afghanistan revision Lady Gaga's 'Telephone' music video

Military men do Gaga

Jon Stewart’s Friendly Fire Gaywatch edition

Does Senator Lindsey Graham need to come out of the closet?
Does Senator Lindsey Graham need to come out of the closet?

Does Senator Lindsey Graham need to come out of the closet?

We just watched Outrage the other day, a documentary about outing gay politicians with anti-gay voting records. And on Jon Stewart he addresses a couple gay issues from the right and the left in his usual hilarious way. I think my favorite part is riding the immigration rainbow from Gaysylvania to the promised land of South Carolina.

Jane Lynch and Glee do ‘Vogue’

Even those of you who may not be regular Glee watchers must want to see Jane Lynch aka the evil coach of the cheerleading Cheerios Sue Sylvester and lesbian extraordinaire strike a pose. Miss Madge herself will be on next week.

The weekend's videos: The "Real" L Word and Anna Paquin is bisexual for a cause

The cast of 'The Real L Word'

In this week that ends both the resurrection as well the the famed Dinah Shore weekend gays and lesbians are tired and news is thin. Even I stayed in on Saturday night, much to my housemate’s amazement. So instead of a weekend recap let’s greet Monday with two videos that have been making their way around the web.

Firstly, let’s take a look at the trailer for Ilene Chaiken‘s new series The Real L Word. By all accounts it looks as vapid as the fictional series.

Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s ‘Telephone’ video storms the scene

Jailtime kiss for Lady Gaga or "How do I get into that prison?"

Love her, hate her, think we here at qPDX blog too much about her, there is no denying that the queer internets are all kinds of atwitter over Lady Gaga‘s newest music video.

In a duet with the fabulous Miss Beyonce, Telephone is a completely odd and queer refashioning of pop culture and I want to hear what all you fine people have to say about it. My favorite reviews, so far, come from edgy lez-culture site Autostraddle and include highlights such as:

“I appreciate the sheer volume of weird shit happening”

“Like getting Wes Anderson to direct Thong Song”

“I feel like I’m high, but I’m not”

“Gaga escaped the Russian mafia with their toxic vodka and sexy potato sack dresses.”

Now watch the magic (below) and see for yourself.
