 Opening night at Invasion Somehow, the capacity for puns that so enthrals fellow blogger PerryWinkle has taken residence in my own writing style, hence the potentially painful title of this post. Luckily, you can sooth your aching ears with the much smoother sounds and surroudings at Portland’s newest ladies’s night, Gloss, at Portland’s newest queer bar, Invasion.
Put on by Portland’s premiere Fatshionista Carlee Smith, of Fat Fancy, Gloss is a night more for schmoozing and socializing than dancing. And though Wednesdays may have some competition from the north, there are plenty of perks that make Gloss a great place to hang out.

 Many of us started the patriotic party early with last night’s Delicious but it’s not time to take off those dancing shoes yet because you’ve got 2 days to go. You’ve already been alerted to tonight’s Gaytriotic Gaycation, but July 4th itself also busts out with the new Casual Encounters at Rotture. One of the best parts of this party is the amazing back patio, perfect for Willamette fireworks watching.

 Learn basic principles of self defence with your queer and trans peers. In the wake of the incidents of violence that happened over Pride weekend that we’ve referred to a couple of times, one of the victims, Audrey, decided to take steps towards organizing a series of self defence workshops geared towards queer and trans people. The classes are taught partly by Jaddua Ross, who has been studying martial arts for a long time and are geared towards any experience level.

 A queer guide to Sauvie's Island! Sun, sand, swimming, summer….Sauvies! You’ve heard about it, but you’ve never been? Well here’s your ultimate Summer Guide To Sauvie’s Island! In fact, 2/3rds of QPDX.com will be at the naked gay beach on Sauvies just today, so i’ll take some pictures of the signs so you can find it easier. If the “Naked” aspect makes you hesitant, not to worry. Lots of dykes wear shorts and go topless, lots of dudes wear shorts, and yes, some go naked. The area we are describing is queer/trans friendly so chest surgery scars etc are a relatively common sight.

 Portland may have the largest population of queers and the biggest Pride celebration in the state, you don’t have to be a city dweller to have Pride. Some places in Oregon may be more LGBT-friendly than others but many areas, be they college towns, rural areas or growing communities are excited to get the chance to show off their local Gay Pride.

UPDATE: It seems like it really is true. The LA times now reports that Jackson was pronounced dead by doctors. BBC News is also reporting his death, along with MSNBC, and the Associated Press. CNN has so far not confirmed his death.

It’s a rough day for 80’sd idols. We’ve just heard that after Farrah Fawcett died of a long standing battle with cancer, Michael Jackson has died of cardiac arrest, says TMZ.com. CNN, however, reports he was taken to the hospital following cardiac arrest but will not confirm his death.
