Translating roughly to “redhead” La Roux, although a duo, is quite dominated by the amazing voice of the ginger-haired Jackson. Sporting a goofy and gravity defying Flock of Seagulls swoop atop her head and a consistently serious expression it might be easy to think that La Roux is a gimmick. I assure you, it’s not. Photo by Pamela Littky Twin hottie hipster folk-rock faves Tegan and Sara will be bringing the ladies down to the Keller Auditorium this Thursday the 8th when they take the stage with openers Steel Train & Holly Miranda. And while the confinement to seats might damper the spirit slightly, there will still most certainly be a plethora of doe-eyed baby dykes swooning over the sounds of the dual talented singer/songwriters. Though I have sung the praises of both their most recent release Sainthood as well as 2007’s The Con I have never actually gotten to see them live. So this week should be an interesting experience as I finally get to see the pair I have dubbed, “Soulful, skillful, intense and at times downright strange…these girls have somehow managed to capture our hearts in a way that is certainly odd, possibly endearing, and yet a lot less sappy than I would expect.” Continue reading »   The cast of 'The Real L Word' In this week that ends both the resurrection as well the the famed Dinah Shore weekend gays and lesbians are tired and news is thin. The most interesting interaction during this extended intro comes from relative unknown bodybuilder and performance artist Heather Cassils, who has no qualms about sitting herself next to Gaga and capturing her in a naughty embrace. But Cassils is better at more than just making out. The Los Angeles based personal trainer and performance artist is fascinating for her ideas on art, gender, popular culture. Here are some of her answers to the most pressing questions of her wide-eyed watchers including upcoming projects, perspective her own personal gender identity, and presentation, and even a glance into her love life.
