New music video for The Gossip’s “Love Long Distance”

I’m not exactly sure what balloon-headed, unitard-wearing, rollerskating has to do with love, but the video for the Gossip’s most recent release “Love Long Distance” (from the brand-spanking new album Music for Men) is charming and wonderful nevertheless. It’s worth watching for the keytar alone, but really the animated floating heads of Beth Ditto, Brace Payne and Hannah Blillie are ridiculously cute.

Gender (Free) For All March is TODAY

I know we are a little late on this – but our friends over at the Gender (Free) For All March are probably already setting up at Unthank Park for today’s march and celebration for the freedom of gender expression for all! This is the *new* and sparkly incarnation of the transmarch that marched with the dyke march up until last year. So come on out for some pre […]

Tit-less, a benefit for Rachel Carns

tit-lessRachel Carns, the energetic and effervesant drummer for The Need, the always impeccably dressed with dark yet somehow not completely sinister eye makeup, has been bravely battling breast cancer. And, like most musicians, even Beth Ditto before she became a household name, medical bills from having little or no insurance are piling up.

Homo’s Got Talent and we have the pictures to prove it

Homo's Got Talent winner achieved the spot with sweet snacks to the tune of "Do I Look Like a Slut?"

I’m still digesting the full brunt of last night’s amazing Homo’s Got Talent dance-off competition so a review is forthcoming.

However, I can tease all of you who weren’t there and provide happy memories to those of you who were with a plethora of titillating talented homo […]

Homo’s Got Talent

homo-talentWe all know Oregon queers have got it going on, but we also have a sense of humor. So this Saturday will see us putting our hip swaying to the test with a spoof of reality television dance shows.

Homo’s Got Talent, perfectly situated in the E Room‘s dark tomb (3701 SE Division), gives local performers a chance to compete to win prizes from local businesses as well as the prestigious title of “Portland’s Top Homo Dancer.” It will be hosted by Pant’s Off Productions‘ flashy gender bender Max Voltage who has promised that the evening will be,

Openly trans Oregon mayor in hot water over short skirt

Stu Rasmussen made headlines last November when he became the first openly transgendered mayor of the quaint Oregon town of Silverton. And, despite visits from Fred Phelps church and a very small amount of opposition Rasmussen appears to be an accepted and effective city leader. However, this hot weather has gotten him in a bit of hot water when a local woman filed a complaint against Stu for revealing what she called “too much skin” at a meeting with a group of local kids.

Music video for Storm Large’s (My vagina is…) ‘8 Miles Wide’

One of the queerest straight girls in showbiz Storm Large is a favorite to just about everybody, but locals will especially appreciate the gender-bending hilarity set against familar backdrops such as the Someday Lounge, Mary’s strip club and South park blocks.

Plus it’s just fun to say vagina.

Oh and the song’s pretty good too…

Don’t forget to Gloss tonight before you enjoy some Fruitcake on Friday

fruitcake-julyDon’t you hate it when your favorite blog doesn’t update for days and then returns with some lame excuse about personal drama and stress? That should never happen, especially for a queer blog…

Luckily there are many places to drown your sorrows when you haven’t heard from me in days. You could even buy me a drink there!

Lions and Tigers and Bearracuda, oh my!

bearracudaTonight brings a much beloved night up from the Bay for the bear and cut set. Bearracuda sets up shop tonight at Rotture (315 SE 3rd) and the rumor mill swirls that another bear-friendly night, Blow Pony, may also be moving to the eastside industrial  hot spot.

Bearracuda began 3 years ago as a fun, friendly dance party for bears, cubs and other “wildlife.” The alterna-friendly event was voted “Best Club for Queer Men” by San Francisco’s #1 weekly paper, The Guardian, in 2008. For a city so saturated with gay bars, circuit clubs and rainbow overload, Bearracuda was viewed as the spot for an attitude-free, sexy good time.

Art, music, benefit, Barberama…a good time

Mural work by Rai Villanueva

Keep your night summer weekend nights with a laid back Sunday evening show at queer-friendly hairdressers (is there another kind?) Barberama (3905 MLK). A benefit for local bartender, performer and personality Colyn Fernandez, this soiree serves a bigger purpose in the march toward transition.

Electro beats by DJ Machineversman sets the backdrop to the intensely primal paintings by aerosol ninja extraordinaire Rai […]
