Lions and Tigers and Bearracuda, oh my!

bearracudaTonight brings a much beloved night up from the Bay for the bear and cut set. Bearracuda sets up shop tonight at Rotture (315 SE 3rd) and the rumor mill swirls that another bear-friendly night, Blow Pony, may also be moving to the eastside industrial  hot spot.

Bearracuda began 3 years ago as a fun, friendly dance party for bears, cubs and other “wildlife.” The alterna-friendly event was voted “Best Club for Queer Men” by San Francisco’s #1 weekly paper, The Guardian, in 2008. For a city so saturated with gay bars, circuit clubs and rainbow overload, Bearracuda was viewed as the spot for an attitude-free, sexy good time.

When asked why the night has become so popular Bearracuda organizer Matt says, “As Bearracuda in San Francisco has grown, we’ve been getting more and more body types coming in and the term ‘bear’ has become more inclusive. So, it’s not a strange thing to see the slimmest guy with the largest one or the oldest with the youngest. First and foremost, we are a bear night, but all are welcome.  Portland is one our very favorite places to visit and with all the (drool) furry faces up there, we expect to see a nice cross section of guys at the party.”

Don’t miss the event’s PDX debuts by DJs Sam Storicks and Boyshapedbox. Storicks, now a Portland resident, was one of Bearracuda’s first headliners and brings hard-thumping beats, which should be a relief in this oft pop-ridden town.  Boyshapedbox, a Bearracuda resident and more diverse mixer, fills the floor every time he’s on the decks, so expect no less. Add in friendly dudes and tasty snacks and you’ve got an unstoppable night of frivolity and fur.
