Fruitcake and Gaycation queer dance off

fruitcakeI hate it when this happens. Portland is so gaymazing that some of the best events must overlap. But still I know these folks all know each other. We couldn’t make one dance night on Saturday? Nevertheless, you should try to make it to at least 1 of these fantastic events.

The competing club nights Gaycation at Holocene (1001 SE Morrison) and Fruitcake at Rumpspankers (700 NE Dekum) are both great alternatives for those of us who couldn’t make the trek down to Homo A Gogo.

‘Imagine’ a new underage nightclub

imagineWhen I was a wee gay in the 90s I assumed every sizeable city had an all ages queer nightclub. Alas, as shady at the City Nightclub may have been I should have been more appreciative of its dark hallways and raucous drag shows.

Indeed an incarnation of this club still exists today. It has moved to a much cheerier and open (with windows!) location on SW Park Avenue and changed its name (after a series of missteps) to The Escape.

Saying Goodbye to Kick/Ball/Change

Catitude at the last Kick/Ball/Change

This Sunday saw the final installment of the queer dance extravaganza, Kick/Ball/Change. The performance, which included regulars such as Untrained, I, Catitude, and Beefcake Burlesque, also featured newcomers Under the Radar and a sexy solo by Carlee Smith. And though there were moments of hilarity and fabulousness, the performance was also tinged with sadness. And now we must be in mourning.

Tonight: Casual Encounters @ Rotture

Features special guests from Gravy Train!!! and more

So we don’t know if you frequent this specific section of Craigslist or not, (i wouldn’t advocate it unless you want to see close up, fuzzy shots featuring the engorged genitalia of strangers) but we *do* support your decision to go to the queer dance night of the same name that’s happening at Rotture tonight!

Kick Ball Change…one more time

Just a final reminder that the LAST EVER Kick / Ball / Change (Dance showcase, and pretty much the gayest thing ever) is happening this Sunday at the Someday Lounge. Get your tickets here online (cheaper) or at the door (it may sell out and then you’d be sad!)

Read what we had to say about the last two Kick […]

Our own Senator Jeff Merkley a big part of a trans-inclusive ENDA

jeff_merkley

Oregon state Sentor Jeff Merkley

The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) is an important bit of legislation to protect our community that let a large portion of us down when it was introduced without including transgendered individuals in its protections. The country’s largest LGBT civil right organization, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) even endorsed this failure, and there was much fuss over the whole situation.

But now we are poised on the edge of a whole new ENDA. And Oregon’s own Jeff Merkley, along with Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) are at the helm of the project.

Photos from the Gender(Free) For All

Mayor Adams marches at the Gender(Free) For All August 1st

By all accounts I’ve heard so far, Portland’s first independent trans march was a wild success. Though qPDX was not able to make it a Q supporter and friend, Heat Smith, was able to snap a couple good shots (too little too late? Send us more!).

Smith was excited to be next to our intrepid mayor, Sam […]

Lubing it up for charity

Lube Job at Red Cap Garage

We here at qPDX have already sung the praises of Red Cap’s (1035 SW Stark) Wednesday night Lube Job party, but there are a few things you might not know that will make attending tomorrow’s hot summer night essential.

Wrestling in a kiddie pool full of slippery stuff might be fun, but it has a purpose as well.Hundreds of dollars have already been raised for local organizations and there’s plenty of room for more. All you have to do is send a slick representative.
