We rarely do fluff here at QPDX.com, although I won’t claim that we always do *serious* reporting either. We sometimes post things just for the eye candy factor of them – but oh so rarely for the girlqueers.  Mayor Sam Adams. Oregonian file photo Oregon Attorney General John Kroger just released a report today proclaiming that there is not suffucient evidence to pursue any criminal charges against Mayor Sam Adams (PDF).
“We have concluded that there is no evidence to charge, let alone convict, Adams with illegal sexual contact with a minor,” according to Kroger’s investigation.
In addition, the report found no evidence that Adams’ 2008 mayoral campaign violated the law when Adams denied having sexual relations with the young man.

 Sexist, Sizist advertising by Bacardi I just found out via Facebook that Bacardi has decided it’s a great idea to come up with a sizist, sexist ad campaign for their Bacardi rum. Another example of stupid people getting paid too much?
I really feel that addressing sizism and sexism in the queer community and in society in general is part of my “mission” as a queer person to create a more equal, more loving, more respectful and diverse society. There are so many hot big girls and boys (and everyone in between) in this town. Plus, we all know queers drink a lot. (let’s be honest, here)
Fuck You Bacardi, I don’t support any alcohol that uses discriminatory practices in their advertising !

Another take on the disturbing brief that was issued by the US Department of Justice in support of DOMA. It compares same-sex marriage to ” marriages between cousins or an uncle and a niece” and that as a result, they do not have to be recognized.

A few news sources across the web are reporting that Chastity Bono, long known to friends and family as ‘Chaz’ has decided to start tranisitioning from female to male. Go Chaz! I applaud Chaz’ decision to be honest and to transition – especially in the public eye. (And Cher’s their MOTHER, for crying out loud).

I have never been a huge military fan myself and have often viewed the unfair “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy as one of the only ways queer lives are safeguarded. But this cheeky attitude is hardly effective in the real world wherein many LGBT individuals wish to serve this country and lead successful military careers openly.

As a queer person, and as an immigrant into what is widely known as the “toughest country to get in to” in the world, I am constantly reminded of the inequality people face in this country who are involved in binational same-sex couples.I don’t have a Green Card, I am not allowed to work, I receive no government support, I am constant danger of my visa being revoked. As a student, I am forced to pay extortionate out of state tuition that is three times that of in-state tuition, and even if I were in a committed long term relationship, I would not be able to get a green card through my partner. I am actively discriminated against because of both my citizenship and my sexuality.
