 The Gossip
The excitement was palpable when Southerners turned Portlanders The Gossip started to really make it big with their last release Standing in the Way of Control. It’s hard to believe that was three years ago. In the interim frontwoman Beth Ditto has become a spokeswoman for chub love and queer rights and culture, appeared naked on the cover of two magazines, started her own plus-size clothing line, and in general burst onto the international stage as a powerful, innovative and inspirational rock goddess.
With this year’s release of Music for Men there is no doubt that the world is has heard the bold and beautiful voice of Ditto and is responding in a big way. Saturday they bring the sound home for those of us who have been appreciating the no-nonsense flamboyancy for a decade.

 Bearracuda returns to Portland Saturday
The beginnings of autumn may have put a slight lull into Portland’s queer nightlife as we all toyed with the idea of staying in, cuddling our snuggies, but I assure you this was a temporary lapse in judgment. We are still two weeks out from Halloween and already the weekend is packed with dress up dance parties.
Tonight’s monthly lady party, Crave, at Crush (1400 SE Morrison) sports a hot zombie theme with go go dancers, fog and strobe lights. Visceral Visuals will be on site projecting horror video imagery on the walls and the Molotov Dolls, Portland’s newest burlesque troupe, will have a sexy scary Halloween themed debut. DJs Mani & Monika.Mhz (top 40s, electro, house, hip hop) on the decks.

Max Voltage in costume promoting Homomentum
Just a few from Oct 9th w/ DJ’s Nolita, Gottesfinger and Girlfriends.
Were you out and about last weekend? See if you got shot by qPDX in our Fruitcake photo gallery.
By now you already know that hump day is a lot more happenin’ than it used to be. Whether drinking and dancing will help you make it through the week or hinder your productivity, enjoying the midweek pleasures has become a queer necessity.
Guest DJ Yo’Malley will be spinnin’ 80’s, new wave and pop, uptown with some gay pizza slices at Fame (5262 N Lombard), but the bigger bash will be downtown at Invasion’s (412 SW 4th) Gloss.

October's Homomentum: Freakasy Speakeasy. Photo by Kina Williams
The Halloween season is upon us, and what better way to to kick off your ghoulish gayness than with a themed cabaret. This Saturday sees the first installment of Pants Off Production’s Homomentum talent shows at the E Room (3701 SE Division) at 8pm.
Crowd favorites Cattitude, Beefcake Burlesque, Untrained, I, and Pidgeon Von Tramp of the Von Foxies will all be a part of the debut performance. Seeing what they do with a sexy/gross 1920s Halloween theme will be creepily mesmerizing.

 'And Then Came Lola'
In the rough road this is this nation’s economy small sacrifices abound. One of them is PLGFF’s second weekend. This ending with a whimper instead of a band makes me quite sad. Luckily, the films themselves promise to be interesting and original.
Sexy lesbians constantly running is never a bad thing, and 7pm’s quick 70 minute And Then Came Lola promises to be a run romp through the streets of San Francisco. Apparently the indie flick it is based off of, Run, Lola, Run, is already considered an art house classic, and whether And Then Came Lola, turns out to be closer to homage or parody it is sure to be fun. Anything that calls to mind the ultra-hot Franka Potente is a must see for me.

 'Antarctica'
Drool at 7pm starts out like any other unhappy-married-woman-discovers-her-lesbianism movie. This plot is so overdone even Oprah has real life version.
Luckily Drool has a bit of a twist. When Anora’s abusive husband discovers their secret all hell breaks loose and he ends up dead in a freak accident. So, the ladies pack up the car, the kids, and the body and hit the road. Drool claims to tackle the themes of racism, domestic abuse, sexism and homophobia with dark humor and wit.

 DJ Automaton at the decks
Wednesdays are often quite a full hump day with the weekly Fame/Gay Pizza/Slice, and monthlies Lube Job and Gloss. But tonight also features a special mix of 2 of Holocene’s (1001 SE Morrison) dykiest nights. Tonight’s Tartdown is a celebration of Double Down and Tart as well as a going away party of sorts.
From the organizers:

The very first order of business upon returning from Mexico late last night is most certainly tonight’s dueling Dirty Dancing flash mob celebrations at the two most infamous gay nights in town, Gaycation and Blow Pony. Holocene’s night will begin at midnight at Blow Po goes down at 1am. Below is an instructional video from Gaycay’s Mr. Charming and the always-performing Max Voltage. Watch and you’ll be ready to […]
Pants-Off Productions is launching our next project: Homomentum: a monthly queer cabaret. The show is a bastard offspring of Kick/Ball/Change and Homos Got Talent, and we would love to encourage a diversity of performers, with a focus in dance, burlesque & performance art, to be a part of this gay new venture! Homomentum will take over the E-room (3701 SE Division) every 2nd Saturday of the month starting Oct. 10th. Each month will have a different theme, which we hope will inspire creativity! Below are the themes and a little explanation of what we have in mind (but we want to empower performers to put their own spin on it.)
