Our broke but fashionable local audience has been foaming at the mouth for our own store for years now as we’ve watched it break into random markets like suburban western Massachusetts, or open 12 stores in 4 square feet of expensive NYC space. Put on by Collective of Geniuses, Homo for the Holidays, a new annual show for all those who feel the isolation of the comsumeristic holiday “season” this Saturday from 6-10pm at Switchyard Studios (109 SE Salmon St). The evening will include brand a new clown performance by the CoG Acrobatics; Aerial by Jack StockLynn, Nikita, and Charity McKee; burlesque by Sahara Dunes, as well as performances by Val the Variety Act and many more. Phillip/Associated Press Looks like Portland has lost its ability to boast the largest city with a gay mayor. In a fairly conservative Houston, Texas city controller and openly lesbian Annise Parker was elected Mayor this Saturday night. Though this news has a lot to do with a fellow Democratic competitor, it is still quite exciting and surprising. Parker also seems to have a sense of humor about it, bragging that she was the first graduate of Rice University to be elected mayor (and indeed she is) before continuing on to serious topics in her acceptance speech. Sot it’s worth showing here. Highlights include openly admitting bisexuality, feeling like a freak as a child, and wanting to be an inspiration to fans and young people, even if she doesn’t fit the role model mold.
