Homo for the Holidays

Do Jump!‘s lesbo-riffic holiday show has always been a queer holiday staple. But this year there is a new kid in town, who promises a slightly edgier fare.

Put on by Collective of Geniuses, Homo for the Holidays, a new annual show for all those who feel the isolation of the comsumeristic holiday “season” this Saturday from 6-10pm at Switchyard Studios (109 SE Salmon St).

The evening will include brand a new clown performance by the CoG Acrobatics; Aerial by Jack StockLynn, Nikita, and Charity McKee; burlesque by Sahara Dunes, as well as performances by Val the Variety Act and many more.

And though it may not exactly be Zumanity, I’m guessing that the queer sensuality will have interesting interactions with gymnastic performance and possibly even Freakshow Circus fare.

There will also be raffle prizes and an art auction. Prizes include donations from SinSavvy Productions, New Moon Massage, In Other Words, Dashing Jack Accessories, and others. Adorning the walls will be artists Katie Simpson Spain, Smitty Amabilis, Rochelle Koivunen, Sam MacKenzie, and Traci Donahue.

CoG’s mission is to create art that challenges the notions on which class, gender, privilege, and other social demographics are based. Furthermore, we empower minority artists, especially those who identify as trans, queer and/or womyn, and help them create sustainable economic stability through educational programs and creative opportunities.

Besides being a refuge for a community that often cannot access or is disavowed by their families, COG also hopes to raise enough money to register for non-profit status. Someone fantastic has already donated the actual filing fee, so now all we need to raise is enough to pay for the lawyer fees, so we can be sure we are all right and legal, so entrance fees start at only $7, although no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
