Hosted by the austere and delicious Artemis Chase
In case you missed last night’s alt-queer raging sweat fest at Rotture, I was there with my camera! Artemis Chase and Ecstasy Inferno performed for the mob and DJs Airick, Kinetic, Jodi Bon Jodi, Trans Fat, iL Camino, Yer Momm, and Banana Juice Jiggle mixed awesome tracks for the undulating […]
One of Britney Walsh's amazing feats of athleticism
If you weren’t there last night and you’re not in attendance right now you have a mere 2 opportunities left to experience the wonder that is Circus Artemis with shows tomorrow at 2 and 7pm. Just because you’ll pay a quarter of the price that you would at Kooza does not mean less amazement. I paid any old man discomfort no heed as I sat on the floor last night looking up at the beautiful flying women above me. You really can’t argue with that.
But aside from simply staring at muscles that just seemed impossible the ladies of the circus approached their routines with humor and style in addition to their artistry.

Lucas Silveira, Canada's sexiest man
Pride NW has officially announced their headlining lineup and the Canadians have got it goin’ on this year. I am especially excited about Ivan E Coyote, a dreamy and extremely heartfelt butch Canadian writer. Another big Canuck draw will be The Cliks, whose FTM frontman, Lucas Silveira, was recently named the sexiest man in Canada.
However, I’m sure they won’t be outdone by hop hop favorites God-des and She or the Idol produced pop of Blake Lewis.

Meghan Mayhem at last month's Cuda Cabaret
Besides the all weekend long Circus Artemis, which you absolutely should not miss, there’s plenty of other queer happenings worth dancing it out to this weekend. These are what I’m considering…
Tonight
The Gong Show – Bad Scene Productions brings you a 70s game show redux for the 2nd time to benefit outside in. Judged by The Mercury’s Wm. Steven Humphrey & Marjorie Skinner and William Batty & Sadie LaGuerre of Wanderlust Circus there’s bound to be nothing appropriate of the former Sissyboy members performing as KD Rang and Mami Tsunami hosted show.
But I’m especially excited to see openers Hammercise with members of the Sprockettes bringing you a whole new way to exercise for summer getting in shape.
Check out a video recap below for a taste:

San Franciscans respond humourously to WBC hatred
The Westboro Baptist Church, notorious for it’s anti-gay stance (“God Hates Fags”and other tripe) and aggressive, homophobia filled picketing, is coming to Portland to picket Grant HS on June 3rd. The WBC regularly pickets anything that is not a supermarket trolley, but why they are suddenly descending on Grant HS isn’t quite clear. (They aren’t that rational.)
An anti-picket demonstration […]
Forgive me, my fellow Portland queers, for indulging in a bit of personal reverie. My favorite political commentator, Rachel Maddow, spoke this weekend at the graduation of this year’s Smithies. Despite being introduced to my least favorite of the 3 college presidents I experienced at my alma mater, 2010 lucked out on its speaker. What a long, strange 7 years it has been since I was sitting there myself…

Besides basking in the sun you might also wanna check out:
Tonight
Dirty Queer – As if you didn’t have enough spring fever already goin’ on here’s some more words to get you riled up.
Bent – Low brow dancin’ in the dark and smoochin’ in the corner. Get it.
Saturday
Alberta Art Hop – Not necessarily a gay event, the art hop will satisfy your summer desire for local food, entertainment, and shopping.

Winning contestant Kaj-anne Pepper with backup dancer Robert Tyree
Monthly drag competition Miss Thing at the Fez has quickly become the show to experience the breadth of Portland drag as well as a who’s who of almost every queer circle. And indeed, that night competition was just as fierce as we have come to expect.
Nonetheless, no one was surprised when the incorrigible and amazing Kaj-anne Pepper took first place with his ironic, satirical and beautiful medley of both Gaga and Madonna. With live vocals and backup dancers perfectly exemplifying the Gaga aesthetic it was a no-brainer, despite the quality of all the acts.
The ultra-gay theme, Lady Gaga vs. Madonna, produced a host of great performances starting with judges, including winner of last month, Bulimianne Rhapsody, who performed her own rendition of Paparrazzi instead praising the joys of wino-loving Carlo-Rossi.

The Swallows swap high-5's with Extreme after dominating them with a final score of 10-0.
The competition is fierce this year as RCSA teams vie for the best standing. I caught several of the afternoon matches on Sunday and will be the first to admit how entertaining they are to watch.
Obvious sex appeal aside, there is something about gay softball that brings out the sports enthusiast […]
