2 Girls, 1 Podcast ep#12: Bowling for Oscars

I was really hoping Glenn Close (R) would win Best Actress for Albert Nobbs though I do love Meryl Streep (L) as Margaret Thatcher. Both portrayals seem pretty gay.

This week’s podcast dispels some rumors, discusses the Hollywood Bowl drama and digs on the Oscars.

First we address a rumor about Just Out from last week before moving on to a couple “sports” related updates. Can queer […]

A weekend to use your Party Language and Slutty Heart for Leslie and the Lys, Oscar and more

Leslie and the Lys play at Blow Pony's 5 year anniversary Saturday at Rotture.

Friday

Slutty Hearts cassette release party – I’m not totally convinced of the hipster merits of producing an album on cassette and the only place to play them for me, and most people, is that one roommate’s car that still has a tape deck. But then they get an iPod converter and the party’s over. I recommend snapping a little USB drive in there with digi versions of the songs instead (and, update, it does actually come with a digital download, so there Alley!). But then, I may just not be hip enough. But the Slutty Hearts are. And you can’t complain about the format when you get a free copy with show entrance.  And their brand of rock will bring you back to pure PDX 90s style with all those fond memories and sweaty show spots. And that’s a good thing.

Gender bending roles among the Oscar nominees

Oh Oscar!
Being 30, I have been able to witness our generation of queers and queer friendly people evolve and accomplish. It is amazing how far Hollywood has come. Trans America and Brokeback Mountain seems to have only been the beginning. I never thought that I would see the day where gender-bending roles and other homo-centric roles would be up for an Oscar.

Welcome to the other side of the closet!

‘Forgive me Father,’ it’s a ‘Cafeteria’ ‘Blow Pony’ weekend!

Saturday's 'Blow Pony' features Serendipity Jones

Thursday

Forgive Me Father at Pivot – I have no trouble reconciling my hedontistic, panganisitc spiritual desires with my homosexual ones, but many of those who hold more subdued beliefs do. This night is for them. There’s quite a movement incorporating faith with gay liberation and this is just the function to explore that.

The CafeteriaVendetta is a small venue but this school themed night has it bursting at the seems. And don’t think you’ll be safe by showing up at 9. The door gods take station at the early work time of, like, 8 or something. Thank god it’s worth it.

Gay celebrating Oscar noms

In the spirit of new contributor’s Nicole’s piece earlier today on GLAAD’s Media Award nominees I’d like to give a nod to all the Academy Award noms that represented for the homos this year.

Especially exciting are two nominations in the Best Picture category for Black Swan, a pyschosexual thriller which stars Natalie […]

Best movies of 2009

'Precious'

So, 2009 wasn’t a huge year for film but we do have a couple Oscar hopefuls. It may not be the shoe-in that we all thought Brokeback Mountain would be, but perhaps a little less drama is ok.

5 – Big Gay Musical

It’s big, and gay, and a musical. That alone gets it 5th place. Slow year…

4 – Hannah Free and Patrik Age 1.5

A Swedish gay couple who expect to adopt a toddler and instead get a teen and a May/December affair starring Sharon Gless make a sweet little heartwarming duo at the number 4 spot. Gayness and family struggles are a worldwide phenomenon.
