 Pretty Bois drag kings
Those ever classy ladies at Crave may have moved their thematic parties to once every two months, but that only makes them bigger and better. Tomorrow night’s Gold Masquerade party should encapsulate a very dynamic February filled with debaucherous celebration in true Midas theme.
I fully expect the southeast digs at Crush (1400 SE Morrison) to positively sparkle with golden deliciousness as surely the hand of the legendary king will have touched every surface, drapery and painted go go dancer body. And if you come so mysteriously masked, you get reduced admission all night.

Do the DARK!!
Phew! Another dance night. My shoes barely get to cool down these days. But who is complaining when you get to DO THE DARK?
Indeed, after the demise of the fabu “FRUITCAKE”, do the dark is hitting inner NE this Thursday with DJs Count Fagula (FRUITCAKE) and Chelsea Starr (DOUBLE DOWN) . Cheap wells and $2 PBRs. No cover before 10pm, $3 after.
It’ll […]
Ronnie Magro – homophobe or simply a hothead?
TMZ.com has leaked a clip from the ‘Jersey Shore’ where muscle boy and temperamental hothead Ronnie Magro was seen spouting homophobic slurs including “fucking faggot” and “fucking queer” at the guy he ended up getting into a punch-up with on the boardwalk. Reclaimed terms and it being ‘Jersey Shore’ aside, I think it’s noteworthy that Ronnie seemed (to me) […]
funner than this
One of Portland’s favourite queer nights, gaycation, is turning an amazing, post toddleresque total of 4 years old! Given the short lifespan of queer nights in this city, we’re very happy that Gay Cay is around and going stronger ever.
Come celebrate with Mr Charming, DJ Snowtiger and special guest KIM ANN FOXMAN (of Hercules & Love Affair). Expect tunes that will keep you […]
 Sam Adams
Here at qPDX we really do like to have fun. That often means that our coverage is entertainment and event heavy. But 2009 saw plenty of news headlines as well. I’m sure it will come as no surprise to anyone what scandal fills the top spot, but let’s run down 4 more items as well before we repeat the obvious.
5 – Media drama, deaths and rebirths
In the beginning of 2009 the implosion of Oregon’s first and only LGBT print publication, Just Out seemed imminent. They had just made an unpopular recommendation to oust the sex scandal embattled Mayor Adams followed by the departure of several important art and editorial staffers over pay disputes. But the publication survived, albeit with a much tinier staff. Despite a so-called dying journalism industry several new local queer publications started up around this time. Indeed, though qPDX has was created in 2005, we, too, had to reinvent ourselves following my layoff from OregonLive.com. And I think independence suits us.

Thomas Beattie pregnant with 3rd child
Wow, there will be a little sports team soon!
Thomas Beattie, the famousĀ Oregon “Pregnant Man” is expecting his third child, new websites including this one report. (the comments on that site are pretty transphobic. I’ll try and find a better source.)
Congratulations Thomas! My first reaction was “three in a row??” and I find it good/strange/telling that I would pretty much […]
 'Precious'
So, 2009 wasn’t a huge year for film but we do have a couple Oscar hopefuls. It may not be the shoe-in that we all thought Brokeback Mountain would be, but perhaps a little less drama is ok.
5 – Big Gay Musical
It’s big, and gay, and a musical. That alone gets it 5th place. Slow year…
4 – Hannah Free and Patrik Age 1.5
A Swedish gay couple who expect to adopt a toddler and instead get a teen and a May/December affair starring Sharon Gless make a sweet little heartwarming duo at the number 4 spot. Gayness and family struggles are a worldwide phenomenon.
