Tonight
The Gong Show – Bad Scene Productions brings you a 70s game show redux for the 2nd time to benefit outside in. Judged by The Mercury’s Wm. Steven Humphrey & Marjorie Skinner and William Batty & Sadie LaGuerre of Wanderlust Circus there’s bound to be nothing appropriate of the former Sissyboy members performing as KD Rang and Mami Tsunami hosted show.
But I’m especially excited to see openers Hammercise with members of the Sprockettes bringing you a whole new way to exercise for summer getting in shape.

  Aerial Ladder Performed by Kricket Caffery, shireen press, & Brittany Walsh The queer produced Circus Artemis will unfurl for three wonder filled days starting this Friday the 21st at Staver Locomotive (2537 NW 29th).

Despite being introduced to my least favorite of the 3 college presidents I experienced at my alma mater, 2010 lucked out on its speaker.   Winning contestant Kaj-anne Pepper with backup dancer Robert Tyree Monthly drag competition Miss Thing at the Fez has quickly become the show to experience the breadth of Portland drag as well as a who’s who of almost every queer circle. And indeed, that night competition was just as fierce as we have come to expect.
Nonetheless, no one was surprised when the incorrigible and amazing Kaj-anne Pepper took first place with his ironic, satirical and beautiful medley of both Gaga and Madonna. With live vocals and backup dancers perfectly exemplifying the Gaga aesthetic it was a no-brainer, despite the quality of all the acts.
The ultra-gay theme, Lady Gaga vs. Madonna, produced a host of great performances starting with judges, including winner of last month, Bulimianne Rhapsody, who performed her own rendition of Paparrazzi instead praising the joys of wino-loving Carlo-Rossi.

Queer Agenda is back this month with an episode dedicated entirely to newly opened women-centric sex toy shoppe She Bop (909 N Beech). Co-owner Evy Cowan leads us through some of the store’s most popular items including vibrators that thrum to your dance club beat (Blow Pony watch out), double dildos that engage the kegels, and beautifully blown glass pieces that are great for temperature play. And though perhaps less sexually useful, but just as entertaining, is the selection of vibes of yore. I do so love a history of sex.

In last night’s Alpha Dog of the Week political satirist Stephen Colbert profiled Family Research Council co-founder George Alan Rekers co-founder. In case you missed it Rekers, vehemently anti-gay leader of a group that tries to “cure” homosexuality, was caught in an airport after paying for a 10-day trip to Europe with a rentboy who was referred to as a “travel assistant.”

  Vote Karol Collymore for County Commissioner County Commissioner candidate Karol Collymore may not be gay, but she gets an honorary badge…so says fellow queer journalists and shakers Stephen Marc Beaudoin, Byron Beck, Caryn Brooks, Jim Radosta, Bryan Boyd and others. She’s received the endorsements of The Oregonian, Willamette Week, NARAL, and several elected officials. Her policy and personality make it a no-brainer for qPDX to add itself to this list of supporters.
Running in District 2, encompassing North and Northeast Collymore has a solid record of LGBT support and community activism including work with Basic Rights Oregon, Hands on Greater Portland, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon and a year-long experiment hosting progressive dinner parties for small non-profits like Schoolhouse Supplies and P:ear. She was also a longtime staffer for Jeff Cogen, current commish and in the running for Multnomah County Chairman.
