A weekend for ladies, menz, and everything in between

This beautiful spring day has all the local queers riled up and ready to mingle. And we have many opportunities to do so. The weekend kicks off tomorrow not only with the Tranny Roadshow but with Crave for the ladies Menz Room and Red Cap’s official Red Dress Pre-Party for the dudes, and Cuda Cabaret for the artfags.

The qPDX sponsored Crave brings the ladybeat back to Crush (1400 SE Morrison) with a Purple Rain theme that will have your doves crying and your feet dancing. DJs Alicious and Boy return to the decks with some 1999 love for your dripping purple heart. Oh and did I mention that Go Go Girls will bring out squirt guns to get the sweaty crowd into the wet, rainy spirit?

An Artsy Party this Friday

DJ Permanent Wave, aka Jenny Hoyston at last month's Art Party

Newly launched artfag club night Art Party is back for the third time this Friday the 2nd at Branx (315 SE 3rd). Hosts DJ Gottesfinger and Permanent Wave aim to bring a combination of experimental music and performance art to an often pop music focused club scene. Their solution is to bring their artrock sensibilities to the dancefloor and Friday’s will be a soiree not to be missed.

Noted experimental musicians Tunnels (Nick Bindeman, he of Jackie O Motherfucker and Eternal Tapestral),
and White Rainbow (local stalwart Adam Forkner, he of too many experimental projects to name) will be
performing alongside Sexual Champions, an all improv, all female brass ensemble headed by Jenny Hoyston
(she of Erase Errata, and too many other musical projects to name).

Blow Pony and Hot Pink Mass, the weekend in review

The real faces of Blow Pony, Chelsea Starr and Blake Cedric. Photo courtesy Wesley Walton

I have only heard that the weekend started off right with Red Cap’s Bootie mashup party on Friday. Alas, these old bones needed at least one day of rest where I remained in my own neighborhood to attend a mellow house party. But I did make it out the following two nights starting with Portland’s reigning king of mixed queer nights Blow Pony on Saturday.

While I am plenty nostalgic, I have nothing but love for the success of my favorite events. Blo Po has clearly blown up. And while I am very happy for them, their new found fame may have some detrimental effects to my formerly favorite night.

QPDX.com family member and avid snowboarder Diana Edwards got a nasty shock after leaving BlowPony @ Rotture/Branx last night.

QPDX’er Alley had picked up Diana from the airport after a christmas trip to Utah and […]

Sissyboy and the return of Blow Pony…Saturday night was a doozy

This weekend was pretty epic. Indeed the fact/excuse that this review is a day or two late is testament to just how big a queer party weekend it was.

Friday started it off with an extremely packed and sweaty Fruitcake which may quickly outgrow its britches, and perhaps already has, in the fine tradition of upstarts such as Booty. But it was Saturday’s combo of 2 big returns, Sissyboy and Blow Pony, that truly raised the roof.

BlowPony gallops to a new stable

airick

DJ Airick spinning it at Blow Po

Blow Pony, the popular dance party for alterna-queers in town has been in the spotlight more for its recent drama than its good times but hopefully that’s a’changin’ when the pony stables up at its new digs at Branx (320 SE Second) this Saturday.

Despite all the drama, the party must canter on. It is time to turn our attention to the excitement that a new, larger space holds for Blow Pony. The highly sexual horse is back on the trail with a “Don’t call it a comeback!” mantra that promises tranny-on-tranny action, pocket dykes, limp-wristed bears and any other queer thing you can dream up Saturday, August 29.
