 BearTown 2007. Photo by Steve L. Your Pride schedule is already filling up, I know. But for the furries and and belly-lovers among us you really don’t want to miss this weekend’s BearTown 14: Carnival of Bears put on by the Oregon Bears.
Indeed this celebration, amazingly in its 14th year, has much to much to completely profile but luckily the bears have cooked up some great highlights. (Oh yeah, and to hint yet again at the new qPDXer, and man about town, who will be covering several of these events as well…Is anticipation building yet?)

It’s getting busy, folks. I know this by the fact that I am expected at 5 different events this Friday! Two are private events, but Pride is definitely heating up. We here at QPDX.com are going to try and cover as much as we can…so before you say “Hey!  Pride season is pretty much upon us. The guides have been printed, the month declared by our president. And this weekend begins the first of the actual Pride celebrations with Latino Gay Pride PDX’s La Lucha, which launches tomorrow, Thursday June 4th, with its opening reception at Miracle Theatre (525 SE Stark).
Friday takes off with VIP and dance parties (to be covered by a brand new qPDX contributor so stay tuned!) and culminates with Sunday’s fest from 4 to 8pm.

 Lesbian Art Show No, that’s actually what it’s called…And these dykey works premiere not at the lesbian haven of Last Thursday, but the rather posher, older, art sibling First Thursday when the “Lesbian Art Show” opens at Fontanelle Gallery (205 SW Pine Street) at 6pm.
Local lezzie artists Mary McAllister and Azsa West, better known for their dyke party DJing, present mixed media collage, drawings, sculpture, and installation inspired by the Dada movement of the 1920s.

 Dirty, fuzzy Peaches Best known for her larger than life sexual personae Peaches‘ new album, I Feel Cream, is a surprisingly nuanced piece of work. Her singing and songwriting will be a welcome addition to tomorrow’s show at the Wonder Ballroom (128 NE Russell), but have no doubts that Peaches’ in-your-face sexuality will still be in full effect.

 'City of Borders' Relative newby to Portland’s extensive film festival scene, QDoc has, nevertheless, gotten the city in a tizzy. It was the first queer documentary film festival of its kind, and remains the only one in the USA. Now in its third season, QDoc has passed its terrible twos and sports a truly exceptional lineup, and a slew of directors in attendance, this weekend at the Clinton Street Theater.

 Femme burlesque superstars the Rose City Sirens are ready to make a grand re-entrance Thursday night at the Egyptian Room (3701 SE Division St) with a brand new show aptly named “Air Raid.” Sure to be loud and raucous, the stage will also be graced by loveable drag kings the River City Riders. And when the groups collide? Well, just make sure you’re braced (under your desk perhaps?) for the invasion.

 Fischerspooner's new album 'Entertainment' Originally a duo formed by classically trained musician Warren Fischer and video-artist and experimental theater performer Casey Spooner for an impromptu rendition of their makeshift track “Indian Cab Driver” at the Astor Place Starbucks, the group grew to over 20 performers, most of whom are dancers and guest vocalists. Combining elements performance art, theater, fashion and multimedia Fischerspooner puts on a show that is flamboyant frivolous and avant-garde all at once.
