  BRO campaigns for Measure 36 repeal Localgay rights organisation, Basic Rights Oregon (BRO) is launching a new ad campaign, which begun by showing ads on TV as recently as last week. (If you have seen them, please comment!) Next to showing ads of long-time monogamous gay couples on TV, their campaign involves hitting the streets, engaging in conversations, and handing out leaflets.

Don’t miss your chance to voice your concerns about issues affecting the local LGBTQ community when Mayor Sam Adams takes the podium tonight at the Q Center (4115 N Mississippi) for a Queer Town Hall meeting.
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community and friends are invited to participate in a Portland Plan town hall event on April 12, 2010. Mayor Sam Adams will lead the discussion, which is co-facilitated by Jeana Frazzini of Basic Rights Oregon, Kendall Clawson of the Q Center, Michael Kaplan of Cascade AIDS Project, and representatives from the Sexual Minorities Youth Resource Center (SMYRC).

 Evan Wolfson - Executive Direction Freedom to Marry Starting today Basic Rights Oregon begins a big Marriage Matters to Me campaign with events in Portland, Bend and Eugene. All three will feature Evan Wolfson, founder and Executive Director of Freedom to Marry, a national gay and non-gay partnership working to win marriage equality across the country. In 2004 TIME magazine named Wolfson one of the “100 most influential people in the world.” Wolfson is the author of “Why Marriage Matters: America, Equality and Gay People’s Right to Marry”. He wrote the book on marriage, literally.

If the Prez can do it, than so can director of local LGBTQ organization Basic Rights Oregon…that is, address the nation on YouTube. Director Jean Frazzini takes to the inter-tubes to talk about Oregon’s path to marriage.
Today Basic Rights Oregon issued a press release on the updates made to our domestic partnership law passed in the Oregon House.
It creates a streamlined process for name changes, clears up confusion between the languages of domestic partnerships in Oregon and civil unions or marriages elsewhere and preserves a long-standing state practice related to taxation on employer-provided partner health care.
