Melanie Griffith is workin' our her "Executive Realness' too
Laborday is gayborday (or LaborGay, how far can I work this bad pun?) in the hard-workin’ heartland of Portland, so us young retired people are just gonna use Labor Day weekend as an excuse to extend the party…right?

A painting show from Mason Bondi & I Mirror/Your Mirror art openings – Downtown/Pearl’s First Thursday may have a snootier reputation than the ridiculous and bohemian Last Thursday on Alberta but it’s always been about the art and there’s good art to be had. Here are two examples from experimental artist and former local Sarah Gottesdiener and Mason Bondi, a painter whose images of small figures amidst huge skies are at once whimsical and haunting.

Kaj-Anne Pepper hosts the first Mrs.
As much as I love you all, I can’t say I’m sad to leave town, which is currently raining and may be one of the shortest summer’s I’ve ever experienced in my many PDX years, this holiday weekend. But there are a few eclectic first and last times that are worth checking out if you are braving the local weather for that last sprint of summer good times…
Thursday
TJO’s solo show :::VERTIGINOUS VESTIGES AND OTHER PROOFS THAT IM PHYSIOLOGICALLY INCAPABLE OF BEING A REALIST::: a doodle book – Tara Jane O’Neil is most known for wielding the musical axe but she’s also an avant garde visual artist. Her doodle book selections whimsically incorporate the elements of Dada and Primitivism into a contemporary comic book sketchpad. Food from Dovetail bakery and dykes making music. Lesbian Art Show
No, that’s actually what it’s called…And these dykey works premiere not at the lesbian haven of Last Thursday, but the rather posher, older, art sibling First Thursday when the “Lesbian Art Show” opens at Fontanelle Gallery (205 SW Pine Street) at 6pm.
Local lezzie artists Mary McAllister and Azsa West, better known for their dyke party DJing, present mixed media collage, drawings, sculpture, and installation inspired by the Dada movement of the 1920s.
