You may not be able to watch season 2 of Portlandiaon the boob tube until tomorrow night, but you can skip ahead and catch episode 2 right now online. Hulu is only offering it one more day but it may stay up on the IFC website a bit longer. So I’ve included that version below.
And I’m not exactly sure why they episode 2 was chosen instead of episode 1, except that perhaps they are hoping that Battlestar fans will become as obsessive about them as they are about Ron Moore. It’s not a bad bet. I’m certainly excited to watch this episode, which also guest stars Jeff Goldblum and Eddie Vedder.
Did I mention you have, like, zero days left to get that holiday shopping done? Well, it’s too late for Amazon girl. Better check out the local options in our Holiday Gift Guide.

Queerlandia 2012 – I don’t know too much about how this party’s going to be but they’re only planning a total of 5 before the end of […]
Fred and Carrie in a real record store for Portlandia's season 2 skit 'Wanna Come to my DJ Night?'
Everyone’s favorite TV show poking fun at our hometown, Portlandia, is gearing up for a second season (a mere 3 weeks away) on IFC and the marketing has just begun. They say the more likes they get on their Facebook page the more tidbits they’ll pre-release. Normally I’m patient enough not to care (and I’m a “fan” already anyway) but seeing as the next clip in the rotation has the nerdgasm-worthy title The Full Motherfracking Portlandia BattleStar episode I’m willing to give in to the hype.
But most of you are probably not quite the geek that I am and the internet is an impatient world, so you’ll want to see the clips already released below for Wanna Come to my DJ Night and My Dog Survived a Tsunami, as well as the season 2 preview, which are all currently making the internet rounds. Folks in my circle are especially excited about DJ Night…Did I mention we have a DJ of the Week column. I’m not kidding. But at least I don’t have my own night!
Another release from Portlandia darling Carrie Brownstein‘s new band Wild Flag, the video for “Electric Band” is another fun and Stumptowny exercise in hipster comedy. The concert on the softball/baseball diamond is pretty gay, and reminds us all of the recently lost summer. All the ladies are visions in their (modified or not) vintage tees and Brownstein is especially hot behind home base as the catcher of a bursting water balloon.
Timony also takes a bigger vocal role in this song, which is a nice change of pace, and a lovely reminder of her lilting Helium voice.
A little insight into the video from Brownstein comes via NPR:

Carrie Brownstein, Janet Weiss, Rebecca Cole and Mary Timony, all members or the “indie-supergroup” Wild Flag go on Minnesota public radio talk about their first album and their current tour, not being a supergroup and the 20th anniversary of the seminal Nirvana grunge album “Nevermind.” This last is my favorite, with Weiss admitting she paid $1.99 to watch the video when 2 days later it was all over MTV.
You can listen to the spot in its entirety below and see video from one of the songs performed, “Short Version.”
Wild Flag's Carrie Brownstein: "It says it's a pie chart. This is a square...If any of you guy don't want to work here let me know."
Acting as if music videos still played on MTV and record stores still stocked vinyl local indie darlings Wild Flag, featuring former Sleater–Kinneymembers Janet Weiss and Carrie Brownstein, have just released the first video from their debut self-titled album, due out next Tuesday September 13th. Romance puts forth a love for the art of rock vid featuring neon Volvos, creepy animal masks, office space antics and hot dice.

Thursday
SugarTown Ice Cream Soul-cial– Last month’s very first ST was a sweet sweet success. Despite the sound trouble early on this celebration of sweetness and soul left a pleasant taste on everyone’s tongue. The music was fun and a nice respite from the usual club fare, the sweet treats for sale were cheap and delicious and there were just enough people to create plenty of opportunities mingle and dance without that claustrophobic and intense heat sometimes generated by popular nights. Sweet Thursday perfection. *
Friday
Crave presents “Glow”– Crave’s annual black light party is always a messy success. And as the creators are moving on to that bigger glow stick coast city Los Angeles, it might also be your last chance to feel the dark light love. This is your chance to relive your raver days or revel in what you missed for those of you in your 20s. But get there early cuz this tiny space fills up fast with females, and besides, they have killer drink specials before 10. *

Lots of excitement has been accompanying new Portland supergroup Wild Flagsince their formation last Summer. The quartet featuring Janet Weiss and Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney, Helium’s Mary Timony and The Minders Rebecca Cole been playing sold out shows locally and outside of the area sporadically in the precious few months of their existence. They are also slated to play at SXSW on March 18th.
Now, they’ve made their first single, “Glass Tambourine” available for online listening. A combination of 70s jam rock and 90s indie pop with a healthy dose of grownup 2011 revamping, “Tambourine” is a full and nuanced aural pleasure which you experience for yourself right here below.
Airing at 10:30 p.m. Fridays, Portlandia is averaging 235,000 viewers among adults 18-49, nearly quadruple IFC’s primetime average in a demo it has aggressively begun courting, and has built upon its lead-in, fellow original series Onion News Network.
Those of us that missed the special Portlandiapremiere that Portland’s Hollywood Theater got this weekend may be sad, but we have this coming weekend’s television premiere to look forward to. And besides, web savvy qPDXers can watch the first episode now on Hulu (and right here below!) for 3 more days.
The early leaked opening video, Dream of the 90s, did end up being the funniest part of the first episode but it was a great first start. The sketch with SNL‘s Jason Sudeikis as a polygamous organic chicken farmer was pretty hilarious. I have faith that it will grow as we get to know our mirror town and its inhabitants.
