Dirty! Dirty! Dirty!

It’s safe to say that Dirty Queer, the monthly open mic at your local feminist bookstore happening this friday from 6-9pm is dirtier than dirt. At times its dirtier than an orgy of naked tree-sitters making the nasty in a mud pit (not that I’ve ever experienced anything like this. at all). Case in point: a few months ago, someone read a piece about getting off to tornadoes and […]

Burlesquire’s first full-length show in review

The men of Burlesquire are very cute. They are also very talented. The opening number of their first full-length performance, Mannequin, was a 5 piece bit of choreography that was very much Backstreet Boys meets La la Cage aux Folles. That, along with a very typical comedienne drag queen emcee, Miss Genesis Wild, created a first impression that teetered on the edge of trite. Luckily the show did not linger there long.

Perry’s Flix Picks: Head On

Ari in a rare goofy momentNot to be confused with the German-Turkish movie of the same name, this little known Australian gem is a tour de force of the chaotic place where Greek immigrant life collides with gay culture, and creates a complicated masculinity that rushes head on into nowhere.

Ru Paul’s Drag Race – Portland Edition!

Fabulous! Unbeknownst to me, RuPaul’s Drag Race is a pretty big deal—if you’re a Logo subscribin’ Drag Queen lovin’ homo that is- (i’m one of these things, and it doesn’t involve a TV) and I hadn’t even heard of it before. Nevertheless, I DID end up at the Red Cap Garage last Thursday until quite late to witness something I think I’ve never seen before-a Drag Pageant.

For those of you unfamiliar with RuPaul’s Drag Race, it’s a Reality TV show hosted by the legendary RuPaul herself—who is searching for the next drag superstar (Think Priscilla meets American Idol or even Top Chef and you’re almost there) Candidates are evaluated on their style, attitude, skills and overall fierceness.

Behind the scenes podcast for Burlesquire’s debut performance

Photo by Tyler Spencer of Coffee For Drew Photography

This Saturday’s Burlesquire extravaganza still has me reeling on several levels so a cohesive review is still in the works. But what these interwebs are good for is transparency of process so, while I gather my thoughts I am happy to share with you yet another Winks and Hunks poor audio quality podcast.

Thanks again to Marty Davis from Just Out who took pictures at the very first Lube Job at Red Cap Garage this Wednesday. The photo gallery software could be better, and I wish there were some captions but at least you can get a peek into the madness if you happen to miss it. I don’t know if every Lub […]

Beautiful boy burlesque troupe Burlesquire has been heating up stages around Portland for some time now, but they are finally busting out with their first solo and full-length show tomorrow, Saturday the 4th and Hawthorne Theater (1507 SE 39th Ave).

And, as you will come to see tomorrow, when this Burlesquire piece runs in the arts and culture section, I have begun to do some writing for local gay rag, Just Out.

The inaugural Lube Job in review

Aside from the fact that Red Cap might not be a terribly safe place to leave an open bar tab it’s a solid venue with just the right amount of indoor and outdoor seating, dancing and standing looking butch and cool watching the dance floor areas. Once you ad lube wrestling, you really can’t go wrong.

Gay porn industry catfight

I may watch the occasional skin flick here and there but I cannot claim to keep up with the drama behind the gay porn scenes. But apparently the industry is in an uproar about the feud between porn queens Michael Lucas and Brent Corrigan.
