Queer Town Hall in Portland, OR
It’s been a few days, but I’d like to take the time to share the results of the Queer Town Hall that happened last thursday at the Q Center on Mississippi. The Queer Town Hall was a project organized by a bunch of folks in our community as a “response” of sorts to the recent acts of violence and inadequate police response that became especially evident over Pride Weekend this year.
Town Hall organizers aim to create a space for discussion and the sharing of information and resources to empower us to engage with each other and the authorities in a different, and hopefully safer, way.

All 4 signature drinks from left to right: Blueberry, Basil, Pomegranate and Lavender Glosses.
All I can say is that organizer Carlee Smith puts on a damn good party, and the newly opened Invasion Atomic Lounge (412 SW 4th) is the perfect swanky spot in which to host it.
Opening night was the perfect melding of delicious drinks and alcohol soaked nibbly things, wandering chit chat, and aurally satisfying relaxation. And even though I love to dance, the space to simple sit and chill was a nice change of pace from the usual cramped hot quarters of other bars.

 Opening night at Invasion
Somehow, the capacity for puns that so enthrals fellow blogger PerryWinkle has taken residence in my own writing style, hence the potentially painful title of this post. Luckily, you can sooth your aching ears with the much smoother sounds and surroudings at Portland’s newest ladies’s night, Gloss, at Portland’s newest queer bar, Invasion.
Put on by Portland’s premiere Fatshionista Carlee Smith, of Fat Fancy, Gloss is a night more for schmoozing and socializing than dancing. And though Wednesdays may have some competition from the north, there are plenty of perks that make Gloss a great place to hang out.

Many of us started the patriotic party early with last night’s Delicious but it’s not time to take off those dancing shoes yet because you’ve got 2 days to go. You’ve already been alerted to tonight’s Gaytriotic Gaycation, but July 4th itself also busts out with the new Casual Encounters at Rotture. One of the best parts of this party is the amazing back patio, perfect for Willamette fireworks watching.

BOYJOY and DJ GIRLFRIENDS are special guests!
It’s time to get out your best, most gaytriotic partywear and saunter down to Holocene for some of that yum, yum Gaycation Fruit Flavour!
This is truly a special GayCay, featuring DJ’s Snowtiger and Mr. Charming, along with up-and-coming pop hunks BOYJOY. We love BOYJOY since we first saw them at the Athens Boys Choir gig @ Dunes! One third […]
Sarah Gottesdiener of the Gay Deceivers
As if your Thursday not-quite-weekend night wasn’t full enough with special guests at Delicious and free HIV testing with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence there’s some kickin’ live music as well. Play/Start, the Gay Deceivers, and The I’s take the stage at the E Room tonight (3701 SE Division) at 8pm. (you probably have time to make it downtown to dance afterwards…)

 PNCA Queer Art Show
I often lament Portland’s lack of a dedicated contemporary art museum, but like most projects, PDX espouses a more DIY attitude. We may not have an institution but we have plenty of local contemporary art, much of which is helmed by queers.
Three upcoming shows around town have have queer themes, though all are very different.

Stop violence in and against our community!
For all of you who were waiting to find out the news about the Queer Town Hall that is being organized to discuss the recent acts in/against our community and the police response to said events, there is now a date, time and location set. Here the deets:
Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 7pm-9pm The Q Center (4115 N Mississippi Ave)
Here […]
I have only been in attendance once or twice but I’ve been excited about new queer upstart Delicious for some time now. Not quite a brand newbie but still so fresh and so clean resident DJs Jimme Jamma and Stormy have been tearing up a nicely mixed, but refreshingly male energized, Crown Room (205 NW 4th) for a couple months now.
And that would be enough for a good […]
Double Down makes for a nice pillow too, ha!
Another opportunity to haveĀ a ruckus good time this weekend is to head to Holocene on Saturday night for Double Down, which will no doubt be the gathering place for everyone who didn’t head out to Seattle or San Francisco! $5, DJ’s and dancing, drinks and […]
