Cazwell’s new video for ‘Get My Money Back’

I’m not sure what getting your money back has to do with monkey suits except that you can showcase hot shirtless dudes eating phallic bananas, but maybe that’s all you need.

Either way in the week since the new video for Get My Money Back was released the uptick in Cazwell page views has been swell. I ain’t above capitalizing on that.

You wanna see it. I wanna give it to you.

Planned Parenthood’s ‘Equal Access Fund’ interview and trivia night fundraiser

DJ Freddie Fagula holds a feminist icon sculpture in support of Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood has been in the news a lot lately, fighting for there very existence. But even when PP is “completely” funded, there scope is technically limited to the prevention of baby-making. Lots of women take advantage of their medical services, contraceptives and other resources. But not every woman needs the meds or paps because she has sex with men, and while plenty of us fudge the truth in order to get services local PP workers knew that this policy was unfair and wanted to do something about it. That’s why they created the Equal Access Fund.

The Equal Access Fund, established by PPCW, gives low-income lesbians, bisexual women and trans people the same access to affordable annual exams and Pap tests as low-income heterosexual women, and increases access to health care to an underserved population. The fund removes the requirement of seeking contraception to access no-cost annual exams.

I a recent survey in three Portland health centers, front-line staff members estimated that in a single month, six lesbians decided not to access services because they could not afford them and were not eligible for CCare. We estimate that annually 150-175 women in our service area decide not to access services because they cannot afford it.

We also  suspect that man more low-income lesbian, bisexual and trans patients at PPCW request and take home contraception they don’t require because they need help from FPEP to pay for their services This subterfuge puts up additional barriers between patients and their health care providers, making an honest discussion about relationships, sexual behavior and risk factors even more difficult for women who may be already hesitant to speak freely.

Consistently facing financial woes, the completely donor funded EAF is holding a trivia night benefit tomorrow night at Crush (1400 SE Morrison). We got a chance to sit down with some of the organizers on the eve of their big fundraiser to ask a little bit more about the program.

The Delicate Smell of Flowers in the Attic!

There were a lot of covers to choose from, but this is the one. All of the children are in the evil-soaked womb of the grandmother!

IF your mother ever says, “Listen, we don’t have anywhere else to go. I just need you all to stay locked in this attic of this mansion a little while longer,” think about it carefully. Actually, don’t think about it. Grab an ornamental object, knock her out, and run away!

Photos from Blow Pony’s 4th Anniversary

LIttle Tommy Bang Bang with ChiChi (of ChiChi and Chonga)

The outfits were amazing. The crowd was bumpin’. The spirits were high. Last night’s 4 year anniversary Blow Pony was a rousing success. My contingent arrived in spring regalia to celebrate the season including two outfit winners: a unicorn and a flower covered maiden.

Everyone else looked fantastic as well. I was too busy having fun to want to worry about a camera but luckily Sara Dee Ditson and the Drag Mansioners were all over it, so you can see several outfits and partygoers in all their glory in the Blow Pony photo album below.

MEN in review

This isn't the Portland show but it is MEN live

Remind me not to stop drinking, because when I fall off the wagon, I fall hard. It was a tough hump day anyway, beginning with a dentist appointment and a long work day…oh, and the death of Elizabeth Taylor. Luckily, I had two of my favorite bands to save me at the end. Lovers and MEN‘s latest albums are both on repeat on my iPod to get me through.

In the vein of an already marginally successful day at best I neglected to check the battery on my camera (and I also left my credit card at the bar) so was unable to get any pictures. But even if I had a day full of FAIL I was soothed by the sweet crooning of Lovers’ Cubbie Berk and energized by the political dance energy of MEN. As for the pre-funk and in between set turntable stylings of DJ Mr. Charming? Just right.

‘Burlescape’ this weekend with ‘Blow Pony’ and ‘JunKtion’s Spring Bling

Blow Pony's 4th anniversary this weekend

Friday

Sweet Basil‘s Grand re-opening – Would you like some drag with your Pad Thai? I’m excited for them, because I want this to be more than a restaurant. Their food is pretty delicious, but can be hit or miss. Everything tastes fresh, but inconsistent (just like top 40’s pop).

Being told, that this is a gay establishment, I was expecting to feel at home right when I walked through the doors. You know, a queen in full glory, handing you menus and a shot. I don’t want Hamburger Mary’s to have the market on “out and proud”. I think Beaverton moms should be exposed to the haircuts they should have had. I also think that your food should taste as good as the fun you’re having. Really, I wanted more gay. I like when VERY straight people feel a little uncomfortable. It isn’t exclusion… it’s gossipy community.

JD Samson’s MEN take over humpday in PDX

Michael, JD, Ginger of MEN

To see some truly great bands you’ve got to be willing to party mid-week. And for the likes of electro-politico-indie-dance-rockers MEN it’s work any Thursday morning hangover. Headed by frontqueer JD Samson (Le Tigre), the trio are touring with their triumphant freshman album release Talk About Body, bringing it to Rotture (315 SE 3rd) tomorrow night.

Joined by local DJ hero Mr Charming, Silver Interior (featuring Jenny Hoyston of Erase Eratta), the Aussie MC Macromantics, and indie-darlings, queer or otherwise, Portland or not, Lovers it’s going to be a show of epic proportions.

As the DJ and the MC spice up the beginning, Lovers will begin the show’s upward surge to climax but eerily tugging on your heartstrings, though you may not even know why. Intertwining in a way that makes you feel both ecstatic and sad, I compared their newest album to doing drugs with your lover when I named it album of the year.

Photos from the 22nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards in NYC

'Top Chef: Just Dessert's Zack Young with the Rokk Vodka Vikings

NYC’s finest came this weekend to celebrate the 22nd annual GLAAD Media Awards at the Marriott Marquis and sponsors ROKK vodka was kind enough to provide plenty of photos of celebs and other attendees.

GLAAD honorees Ricky Martin and Russell Simmons strutted down the ROKK blue carpet, and the evening included hilarious jokes from host Andy […]

Unconditional Love

No, this movie isn’t pre 1970, but it’s fairly unknown, and that’s a crime.

This movie has nothing to do with prison.. maybe... the prison of the closet

Welcome back to a world of queer beauty where you’re perfectly safe from all the things you have to do today. I won’t let them get you.

So, you know how icons such as Barry Manilow (who makes a cameo) are hetero icons, but homo at home? This movie is ALL about that. We can’t ignore the age long stereotype that the “perfect man” is sometimes gay. Of course, gay men will tell you that isn’t really true. It’s the idealism of the unattainable that’s perfect.

St Patty’s Day weekend includes a ‘Gaycation’ of ‘Chocolate Cities’ and ‘Jelly Rolls’ and lots of bands

Hot gay leprechauns...

Thursday

Happy St Patty’s Day y’all. I know many of you will protest that the “snakes” Patrick was driving out were peace-loving pagans, and yet others of you may be flashing the Protestant orange. Either way I’m not a huge St Pat celebrator but I’m down to drink a green beer and and get pinched with the best of ’em. It is not political for me (easy to say from my comfortable west coast seat eh?). So that’s the spirit of this Irish tinged weekend picks. But feel free to discuss more important matters below.

No cover St Paddy’s at Flipside – Salem’s hottest q party is offering to let you get down sans door cash. More to spend on Irish whiskey. But sure if I’d trust the dollar wells though…who am I kidding, of course I would.
