Thursday
Purple Rhinestone Eagle‘s Bad Dream Tour kickoff with Fucking Lesbian Bitches – “I don’t compromise. I’m metal..” And with hot local ladies making it you don’t have to. Seriously fuzzy riffs and bold but not scratchy vocals combine the best of 70s hard rock with punk and blues undertones. PRE’s new album The Great Return is out now and they’re ready to take their act on the road. Joined by FLB for their hometown farewell helps prove hardcore punk’s not dead, nor are ironic band titles with the word “lesbian” in them.
Hustle: A trans top surgery benefit dance party – It’s time to dance your boobs off with DJs Kinetic (Blowpony), Trans Fat (Maricon, Blowpony, Cafeteria) and Roy G Biv (Bent, Blowpony). Good cause and there’s bound to be trannies and chasers so take your pick.
Friday
Night of Noise with Cleveland or with SMYRC! – Celebrate the end of the Day of Silence, a youth run initiative started to bring attention to LGBT bullying, with a night of teenage loudness and all ages righteousness. Cleveland High School is at the helm of this inclusive party at Backspace (115 NW 5th) featuring speakers and acts such as Produce Department, The Don’t Say No’s and Half Way There and the Sexual Minority You Center (SMYRC) will also hold a celebration at their drop in center (3024 NE MLK) with an open mic letting youth express their thoughts on equality by playing guitar, singing, reading an original poem, doing an interpretative dance, displaying a painting or any number of artsy queer teen things.
Crave‘s hip hop night – The hottest 20-somethings in town go to Crave and the hip hop night you asked for is bound to make it even dirtier than usual. VIP throne for bachelorettes and birthday girls, bomb break-dancing, fly girls, and a packed dance floor will guarantee a goddamn good time.
Saturday
Sinead O’Covers, Sweat Flowin’ Love (Heart) and Lez Phair – There’s a streak in the local lesbian music community to create mini-supergroup cover bands. It sounds cheesy, but it’s fuckin’ worked. When I saw the Heart and Fleetwood Mac cover bands last Halloween it was one of the most magical music experiences I have ever had. And I wasn’t even on drugs.
But this cover band lineup? Pretty much the lineup I’ve ever heard. Kaia Wilson, Jody Bleyle, Hannah Blilie, Rachel Blumberg, Marisa Anderson + live strings performing yr favorite Sinead O’Conner songs, Sweet Flowin’ Love breaking your Heart covers, and Jenny Hoyston does Liz Phair as Lez Phair.
Gaycation! – Biggest, baddest alterna-queer-makes good perfectly mixed party. Straight up queer as good time, ‘Nuff said.
Candy Shop Birthday Bash edition – Candy! Queers! Cuties! Creepies! Bubble gum pop decks by DJ Adam West, a lollipop suck off contest and performances by, like, everyone make this, like, the best free party ever! Sweet!
House of Switch LIVE porn shoot – Sometimes editing can make an adult film great. Sometimes it just feels rehearsed and disingenuous. But a live porn shoot would have all kinds of spontaneity, laughter, and charming awkwardness. Or at least I imagine so as I have to admit, surprisingly, that I have never seen such a thing. It’s a brave new word of awesome sexual opportunities with this crazy computing machine eh? So join Join Sophia St. James, Jiz Lee, and Mr. Gray at House of Switch‘s live stream at 9:30.
Sunday may be a day of rest but you’re going to need it because this weekend extends through Monday…
Monday
Kerry Hallett with Nate Harpel and friends – The as yet undiscovered Kerry Hallett won’t remain so for long. Her singer/songwriter earnestness shines through a cute hipster exterior, and her music is a perfect reflection of that. Occaisionally produced, but always beautifully crooned, songs like the ethereal “Through Your Fingers” will draw you in. You can hear that and more on Hallett’s MySpace page.
Havoc! – Queers rule the Monday night with a dirty dance party with electro beats and Jimme Jamma at the just right Nopo dive bar, Saratoga (N Interstate between Rosa Parks and Lonbard).
