New video for ‘So Human’ from Lady Sovereign

Leave it to a Brit rapper with outlandish fashion sense to successfully break down the human condition. And the multiple personalities as displayed on magazine covers can offer a great start to a philosophical discussion as well.

One more thing. The therapist in the video is hot. Do you need any more reason to love this vid?

Gay dating on the iPhone

Grindr's main search page. Only the hottest boys in whatever town this is apparently...As someone who is admittedly rather tethered to my iPhone I am all kinds of ready for gay dating to make its way to the location based computer god in your pocket. But, as usual, Grindr (iTunes link), released today, is only for the boys.

I suppose in reality you don’t need this service in Portland because on any given night you pretty much know where are the queer people are going to be, but as someone with occasional social awkwardness (which is also not unusual in this town) a technical crutch might be a handy aide.

Getting down at Portsmouth Pizza

We're dealing with a family dining establishment here...it's gonna take some timeIt’s on a Wednesday and it is way the hell out there. These aspects of a new queer dance night that popped up in North Portland lead me to think it might not rise to the ranks of a truly popular queer destination. But then again, 4 or 5 years ago a little night called Booty opened up all the way up in what was then the middle of nowhere, in a tiny bar called Porky’s and it became a night of queer Portland legend.

Oregon House passes anti-bullying bill by a wide margin

GBLTQ and genderqueer youth are some of the biggest targets for school age bullying so it is with great joy that Basic Rights Oregon reports that the Oregon House just passed HB2599, the Oregon Safe Schools Act, on a 50 to 9 vote.

Jeana Frazzini, Executive Director of Basic Rights Oregon says of the bill: “Bullying and harassment are far too common in Oregon schools. This proposal will help keep children safe.”

Rachel Maddow insults Jimmy Fallon’s sissy cocktail

Everyone’s favorite lesbian anchor, Rachel Maddow, continues to light up the screen on her show…and everyone else’s. Last night she appeared on Jimmy Fallon and they had adorable banter about drinking and masculinity. Although they may have already been a little tipsy, as both kept spilling the vermouth.

Winks and Hunk’s first podcasting experiment: The ‘L Word’ finale’s interrogation intverviews

We all know the L Word ended, or rather didn’t, badly…and we are all dying to talk about it. Well aren’t we?

Is Mama Chaiken going to take over the world with L Word spin-offs? Is Helena saving herself for Winkle? Will we get a better microphone? And is incest really relevant to who killed Jenny?

Spring break hate crime in Seaside, Oregon

Two gay men, Samson and Kevin were severely beaten in a hate crime this weekend in Seaside, Oregon

Two gay men, Samson and Kevin were severely beaten in a hate crime this weekend in Seaside, Oregon. Photo courtesy KATU.

I am very privileged to almost always feel safe in Portland and I usually feel fairly confident that I will not be gay bashed in most of Oregon, certainly in our laid back coastal areas. But this weekend 2 young gay men, nursing students from western Washington, were beaten severely in Seaside, Oregon.

Sneak peek of Beau Breedlove’s Unzipped cover

Beau Breedlove on the cover of Unzipped magazine

Beau Breedlove on the cover of Unzipped magazine

Though the print issue (as if anyone cared…you can print out the picture to put above your bed right?) will not be on newsstands until April 7th, Unzipped has released the cover photo of Portland’s infamous mayor canoodler Beau Breedlove. (Breedlove had an affair with Mayor Sam Adams quite near his 18th birthday, just in case you missed that…) And I gotta say, despite your feelings on the whole debacle, it’s pretty damn hot.

Rep. Barney Frank breaks it down

Logo news interviews prominent and openly gay Congressman Barney Frank about the current major political issues facing the LGBTQ community today. He keeps his comments quick, simple to the point and, for the most part, fairly positive.

He identifies 3 major steps forward he believes Obama can accomplish in his first term:

1 – A trans inclusive ENDA (Employee Non-Discrimination Act)

2 – A trans inclusive hate crimes bill

3 – Repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell

And while he was less sure about the timeline of a repeal of DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) he thinks the fight is coming and it is worth it. Best yet, he blatantly and loudly calls Justice Antonin Scalia a homophobe. Go Barney! (I love you…You love me…)
