A weekend of galas, launches, anniversaries, a return to SugarTown

The legendary Bob Mould performs at Q Center's annual Winter Gala Saturday

Thursday

PQ Monthly launch party – A new publication is in town and tonight is the night both the print and web versions launch. We are excited to share resources and have even more reason to make sure local queer coverage is comprehensive and thought-provoking. Oh yeah, and an excuse to party.

Friday

SugarTown queer soul – The best queer homage to 60s and 70s soul in town is finally back after a brief hiatus. The new venue of the Spare Room has a great space, cheap drinks and will be a refreshing change to the usual old haunts. And this special return also features this week’s DJ profile for Freaky Outty. Plus where else can you get sweet treats by Emily Franco in addition to a drink? It’s a killer comeback you won’t want to miss.

Peep Show‘s Good Vibrations – Little Tommy Bang Bang and Carla Rossi team up to make a wonderfully sassy and sharp tongued drag king/queen duo.  A star studded lineup includes the glitter fantasy of the Gillicorn Blessing, Burlesquire and more. And it’s for the Hallmark lovers and loathers alike so remembering Tuesday’s holiday should be a painful joy either way.

Saturday

Q Center’s Winter Gala 2012: Never Out of Style – Q Center’s biggest fundraiser of the year is this Saturday and they’ve got a cavalcade of the glitterati and gaystream performers. The “Never Out of Style” theme lends itself well to the performer I’m most excited about, Bob Mould. An 80s hardcore icon from Husker Du and Sugar he is also openly gay. And there will be plenty more entertainment and niceties for the patrons.

Gaycation 6 year anniversary – To celebrate it’s half a decade as queer nightlife royalty Gaycation welcomes guest DJ Lauren Flax. This DJ icon has turned the tables for legends such as Fischerspooner, Nina Sky, MEN, Sia, Poly Styrene and more. This night will remind you not to take our greatest parties for granted.

Mrs Let’s Get Physical – A leotard and Aquanet style neon celebration at Portland’s favorite queer theme party. Olivia Newton John would be proud.

Gay & Lesbian Wedding Expo – With all that fervor up north about gay marriage Portland’s own exposition for the gay set it bound to see a big boost. Do you have visions of dresses and rings? Well indulge your inner bridezilla and drown in the lovely accoutremonts we’ve attached to love.

Rae Spoon

Sunday

F-Holes presents Rae Spoon and Timmy Straw – For as many amazing club nights as POrtland now has it was once better known for it’s indie music. A new series from Pants Off Productions, F-Holes, aims to bring live music back to its full gay grace. The first installment features the electronic sounds of local Timmy Straw and the electro-folk stylings of trans Canadian native Rae Spoon.

Monday

Gay Skate Roll Bounce edition – Gay Skate was sponsored by Just Out but we thought it was such a great thing we had to step up and support it when JO went under. Exciting for them and for us we’ve changed the format slightly to benefit a different LGBT organization every month. This month it’s Black Pride so get on those wheels and get ready to roll bounce!
