A weekend of Dirty Queers, Trans Revolution and Homomentum

Trans Revolution dance party returns to Crush tomorrow

Just because you are trying to stick to your New Year’s resolution of not drinking, or at least drinking less, doesn’t mean your social calendar should suffer. We may be experiencing the post-holiday doldrums of grey and rainy January but there is still plenty of queer excitement left in the humid air.

This weekend sees at least 3 big events, the 3rd anniversary of the popular smut fest Dirty Queer, the return of the genderiffic Trans Revolution dance party and the continuation of the popular Homomentum performance cabaret.

For DQ’s third birthday at In Other Words (8 NE Killingsworth)  you’ve got to be prepared for a full night of hot flushes as the artsy, sexy queers of Portland pump out not only some of their dirtiest stories and poems but also dance moves, improv, gender performance, secret magic skills and more.

The extended night, which is likely to see an attendance of over 200, starts at 5:30 with signups, with performances from 6 to 7:30. Then a half hour intermission will tempt other vices with tasty treats from Vergnetti’s Coffee, Cupcake Jones and Pizza Fino, as well as any hot homemade treats participants are encouraged to bring.

Other reasons not to miss this include door prizes from Fat Fancy, She Bop and Grilled Cheese Grill, a sex Q&A about Betty Dodson and boot blacking by Scout, the 2010 NW Community Boot Black title holder.

But your Friday night is not done yet. The reemergence of Trans Revolution dance is a triumph in light of a tragedy. Originally a Tuesday night party at Embers organizer Elle recently passed away and her friends, family and Mirage Entertainment decided it was important for Trans Revolution to live on. This Friday sees the genderfuck celebrating night return to Crush (1400 SE Morrison) every 2nd Friday.

And if you aren’t already exhausted, or even if you are take a nap and rally for Saturday’s 4th installment of Homomentum. This month’s Inconoclash celebrates those big divas, drag stars and pop icons from Freddie Mercury to Marilyn Monroe. Performances by Untrained, ISterling of the Rose City Sirens, Feyonce and more will certainly inspire the starfucker in all of us. Be sure to bring your altars.
