The other day I posted this recent Ke$ha video for “Blow” to my personal Facebook page (a re-post even, how social media web 2.0), and I was rather surprised at the discussion that ensued. It seems Ke$ha, as inconsequential as she may seem to me, affects our queer community in controversial ways.
So post serves two purposes:
1) Post a silly, visually engaging pop music video for the enjoyment of my queer PDX readers, and
2) Start the discussion, publicly, of Ke$ha as ally, foe, mere capitalist mass market machine with a queer community target audience, or hot feminist blue collar heroine who proudly reclaims of sluttery and sets it to a catchy beat…
Go forth and comment my friends.
Love Love love.
Great dance tune:-) Super sassy, very talented, energetically powerful young woman. Very decent article about Ke$ha from 3/10/10:
“Party girl, crank or professional provocateur, the 23-year-old from Nashville twinkles with laughter and passion for life”
Fab dance tune. Quite the sassy, smart, talented and powerful young woman:-)
Some other good Ke$ha reading material is this interview with the Advocate: http://www.advocate.com/Arts_and_Entertainment/Music/Keeping_Up_With_Ke$ha/
My favorite part of the article has got to be this:
Advocate: Who would you invite to an all-girl sleepover?
Kesha: Oh, my God, my fantasy would be Rihanna! We recently started being friends, and I think she is really cool. I would want Shakira to come because she is so hot. I would also invite Sarah Palin, and I would put her hand in hot water to piss herself.
[emphasis mine]
I don’t really ” get ” (probably too old), but those are some of the strangest unicorns I have ever seen. I do like that brushing one’s teeth with Jack Daniels!
I hate kesha for the grow a pear song….it can be viewed as transphobic and anti-ftm and she has made comments about transwomen, as men who are prettier than her and make her feel like a bad woman.
can not stand her.
This song somehow manages to be so wrong that it’s right. Utterly catchy and fun. I hate how much I like it.
The video is perfect: ridiculous, over the top, and not even trying to fake lyrical relevance. I love it. (Unicorns and rainbow lasers, you know you love it too.)
