San Franciscans respond humourously to WBC hatred
The Westboro Baptist Church, notorious for it’s anti-gay stance (“God Hates Fags”and other tripe) and aggressive, homophobia filled picketing, is coming to Portland to picket Grant HS on June 3rd. The WBC regularly pickets anything that is not a supermarket trolley, but why they are suddenly descending on Grant HS isn’t quite clear. (They aren’t that rational.)
An anti-picket demonstration is currently being organized via facebook, with an emphasis on funny signs that undermine WBCs virulent hatred.

I think a counter-protest is funny… However, I feel that this group demonstrates in order to get media attention and to get a rise out of our community.
What if no one showed up? How boring would that be for them?
If anyone decides to be a part of this perhaps it would be another religious group (straight people) who affirm us?
Why not have a pre-pride party at an alternate location? I can not willingly expose myself to their hate. All we would be doing is giving them the attention they WANT.
What we need to do is show up in droves and support Grant High School (They have a gay/straight alliance which is why they are being targeted), be loud and proud to drown out the WBC’s message of hate.
I was there at the protest of New Hope Church on 5/30 with my own Bible verse signs such as “God Approved Slavery” and “God Hates Barbers” I was also belting my own LadyGaGa parody to combat theirs. “F- your God, F- your God, no I won’t worship a God That Hates!” I have many signs I’ve made in Photoshop. These are in Black and White and ready to be printed in Greyscale, Portrait / Letter size as multiple pages and cut and taped to cardboard measured 2.9 feet wide and 2.7 feet high to make a full size visible sign.
