Sugar Town queer soul night – Rotture’s soul night has become a staple in Portland nightlife both gay and straight. But as with many popular nights the douchebags inevitably catch on, and it can be even worse at a “straight” night. I’m not sure if this happened to the beloved soul night, but it was time for us to have our own anyway (Pansy Soul is great but Sloan’s is more for hanging out than dancing). Anyway, all of this to say I’m more than a little excited that one of the best dressed butchies I have ever seen, DJ Action Slacks, will lead us all in a little soulful 70s love starting this Thursday, and hopefully forever more. It’s free but donations for Q Patrol are welcomed.
Cafeteria turns 1 – Oh my god Freshman year is over! Now we can give swirlies to all the new queer club nights in town. And guest DJ Girlfriends will be spinnin’ in your parents’ back yard (i.e. the Vendetta patio) ’til 11, just like at the popular kids’ parties. We’ve made it folks. Sophomore year is gonna rule.

Julie Schurr double header – Troubadour Julie Schurr has a great tagline, “acoustic music with the right pronouns.” And on the eve of her “Boi” tour you’ll have 2 chances to see her perform, an early all ages show at Jade Lounge and then a grownup set at the Gotham Tavern.
An evening with Lady Bunny – The infamous NYC drag queen graces our little town with her presence and joins other performers, such as The Stranger’s “Best FUCKING performer in Seattle” Jinxx Monsoon. It’s 3 tiny dollars for all this out-of-town talent and Bunny even promised to get in the DJ booth to lay down some tracks for y’all. So let’s welcome our guests proper.

Gator Aid jock auction – It’s a benefit for gay softball…with men! Oh yes, this Slaughters fundraising event will have raffle prizes such as massage therapy, over night stay at the Edgefield estate, shows, dinner and more. But the real reason to shell out the dough? Hunky ball players will be modeling jock straps and undies by Benjamin Blak up for auction…the clothes, not the men…
JunKtion, a benefit for girl rock camp – Another reason to party and spend your money for the cause. This one’s for the girls, girls who rock. Local vibe, intimate dance party and live art by one of my favorite aerosol artists, Rai Villanueva.

Slutwalk the pre-party – What would a Sunday Slutwalk be without a debaucherous Saturday night to precede it? We’ll all walk off our shame together in the morning.

Sunday
The Porch Parlor – Beautification and barbershops have, for some reason, always been a place of gathering and community gossip. This DIY event featuring Nailed by Ally and haircuts by Brandie Taylor is our own queer version of the phenomenon. It’s also quasi-outdoors, so I pray for sunshine but as Annelle says, “Miss Truvy, I promise that my personal tragedy will not interfere with my ability to do good hair.”
