Queercore is where it’s at this Holiday season! Stuff your stocking with more than a packer and give the gift of music! Here are a few of my favorite Portland based queer artists. If you haven’t heard of them already, make time to hear them NOW!

Amy Kasio (DJ Kasio Smashio) is a queer feminist indie rocker and DJ. Her sound is mostly electro-pop and her wicked DJ skills will raise the roof of any Homo party! She has performed at Homoagogo and has DJ’d at Dirtbag (The Know’s monthly queer party). You can find some of her smash-ups on SoundCloud and find her original music on her MySpace  page.

SistaFist is a lady trio synth band. These MC’s have a great rhythm! Appropriately named, it will be hard not to raise your fists while driving along to their jams! They have played at Music Fest NW and Lady Fest. Even though they have not put together and album for release, their MP3’s are well worth downloading. Find them on Soundcloud and MySpace.

Lovers is another electro-pop band with great female vocals and intense metaphoric lyrics! It’s hard to resist their keyboards and impossible not to sing along. Their newest album, “Darklight” was released last year and it’s one of my personal favorites to listen to! Check out the album on MySpace.

Kiss Kill is a great pop-punk band that consists of 4 amazing musicians. With awesome guitar solo’s and sweet electric violin sounds. You have to listen to them to believe me.  Their album (“Keychain Pistols”) is not hard to find. You can buy online at Amazon, CDbaby and of course, iTunes.
