There’s a million and 1 Pride related parties and events but the Waterfront Village celebration itself sports some talented performers, and all at donation prices. And now that you can carry your beer throughout the booths in the lovely lighthearted PDX sunshine, it might be hard to pull yourself away.
Here are a few acts that make our hit list followed by a complete lineup:
Saturday night’s main stage headliners (performing from 9 to 10pm) Uh Huh Her are known primarily for band member Leisha Hailey aka Alice from the L Word. But the Hailey and bandmate The duo’s Freshman album, Common Reaction made my top 10 list last year and has since been on constant rotation on my iPod. Unfortunately I’m still waiting for dance remixes.
are talented way beyond Hailey’s TV celebrity status, putting out catchy yet complex pop songs.Even someone who is not a big folk fan like me can appreciate the soothing strumming and parched, wounded voice of Chris Pureka. Besides, her calm good looks make it bearable to follow her songs into the depths of depression she puts forth so well.
Minerva
Saturday afternoon’s Minerva claim to have a queer factor of 75% but judging by the band and relationship break ups, hiccups and connections I’d give ’em an additional 10% easy. A mix of art rockin’ genres Minerva’s dark guitar is a welcome break from dance music.
Splendora
The infamous former Sissyboy giant has returned to Portland in order to emcee Pride and make a host of other guest appearances. He really needs no introduction to most, but let me just say the fake eyelashes, tattoos and shifty attitude are a winning combo.
