The title alone is pretty vivid and exciting. Welcome DJs Actions Slacks (Shannon Wiberg) & DJ Pukes In Vans (Nadia Buyse)! They are the new resident DJ’s at the Tonic Lounge – Chick-A-Boom feminist dance party! It’s a fundraiser for The Raphael House. In case you don’t know, it’s an anti domestic violence agency reaching out to all genders and orientations. As you may know, queer domestic violence rarely gets reported as victims can’t be sure that the police will be sympathetic. This is true for all kinds of domestic abuse as well.
This is an afternoon dance party at the Tonic Lounge, and the music will all be records by women of the golden era (1950s – 1970s) of rock, soul, & pop dance music. Now, I know some of you party people have a hard time getting to a club before 10:30 pm, but it’s time to pull it together, because this is going to be SO MUCH FUN! I’ve seen the resident DJ’s in action (pun intended), and I was blown away by the music selection. It’s been ages since I’ve heard “I’ve Got The Music in Me” by Thelma Houston. The show is euphoric.
Slacks and Pukes (couldn’t resist) are being joined by guest DJ – Magic Beans (riot grrrrl legend Maggie Vail of the Bangs and more). Lastly, this event is FREE! It’s Free, you know, the official religion of Portland? All DJ tips and good attitudes will be going to The Raphael House. I’ll also be there with party favors and my entourage of seahorses.
